Can anyone help with my itchy scalp?

I've posted on women's health as I think it's menopause related but had no response so thought I'd try here.
My scalp is so itchy atm. Not nits or dandruff - I'm 51 with very few symptoms of the menopause atm but reading up suggests it could be related? I've never suffered with an itchy scalp before.
Any suggestions how I can reduce the itchiness would be grateful received!

I tried tesco and Aldi's home brand cheap cheap cheap shampoo and conditioner. Think are 95p each....stopped it straight away and only thing I use now. Obviously it doesn't leave my hair feeling the best but it's worth it!

How long have you had the itching? Is it just your head or are other areas affected?

Mothew · 03/11/2023 16:01

Coconut oil worked for me. I just applied it to my scalp at night, then washed my hair with a fairly gentle shampoo next morning.

Head and shoulders derma x pro works for me. Also use Holland and Barrett faith in nature shampoo and conditioner which you can also get in Boots.

Head & Shoulders Bare has been much liked in our house. It's milder than the Derma X version, and less SLS than the normal H&S.

Just my head really - had it a few months.

How is your diet op? Some people say it’s an overgrowth of Candida. Maybe cut out sugar and test out the theory?

My diet is quite good, not overloaded with sugar.

I had it for weeks before I realised what it could be. Wet hair, tied in a back and that's where it itched then. It happens with certain hairstyles for example when they don't dry out properly. It's fungal.
Try the salt water before spending more money.
Ithink i had 3 or 4 tablespoons in a cup of water

GingerLiberalFeminist · 03/11/2023 17:07

I had this for months when younger, doc couldn't tell me. I found only plain basic head and shoulders worked. I tried all the expensive brands (aveno, nutragena etc) but bog standard h&s does it. Even now, if I change for a few days the itching comes back.
NB I don't have dandruff, psoriasis or anything

Placemarking for later. Smile

I've bought head and shoulders to try first as it was on offer! It's the one for a dry itchy scalp.

Wouldn't have thought to try it before as it's not dandruff so thank you for the advice.

Nizoral/TGel coal tar/capasan - shampoo

mine started on my scalp, incredibly itchy where i was itching so much i was bleeding. Then spread down my neck to upper back. I think its a bit of psoriasis/eczema. Im using Hc45 cream. I think mine is worse with stress

Have you tried Hairetic? It is a more natural option to Head & Shoulders, and has been great for my scalp.

This odd interesting because I went swimming yesterday and my hair was wet for ages. Last night was the worst itchiness in ages.

I'm going to go to boots and search all their shampoos. Will see what's on offer and try that one first I think.

I have always had an itchy scalp, but only in patches. I do get dermatitis but Capasal sorts it well
