Kids eating healthy at home but freely outside

Just wondering what you thought of this approach

(Young kids not teenagers)
Not allowed fries, crisps, junk food or soda at home but allowed to order what they want including soda when outside.

That's normal isn't it? My dc could always have treat drinks like lemonade if we went out for food but I definitely did not let them have as normal at home.

That’s what we do at home, works fine.

Thenewnewme · 02/11/2023 19:52

Pretty standard. Although most young children I know aren’t allowed fizzy drinks.

sounds reasonable and proportionate, as long as the "outside" food is minimal, not every day

Matilda1981 · 02/11/2023 19:53

I think that’s fairly normal, I have 4 kids, we all eat fairly well at home, they have school lunches every day which nowadays are pretty healthy so I really don’t mind them ordering what they want when we’re out (this is within reason, the 5yo isn’t allowed coke but the 12 year old is!)

Sounds good to me. I’ve got 2 kids who are both fit and healthy and a good weight. I always tell them that there is no such thing as an unhealthy food, only an unhealthy diet. Demonising any food can be potentially problematic.

Thank you everyone!
