I'm looking to try and travel between bury and Manchester picadilly probably 3-5 times a week only once on those days, but I cant make head nor tail of how to do it or how it costs. Tbf it's probably just my overtired head as my sons in hospital in Bury(we live a loooooong way away) and I'm trying to figure lots out

It’s showing on google maps that a 45 min tram and a 5 min walk can be used as a public transport option. May be slightly less/more depending on your true location.Best wishes to your son 🙂

HobnobsChoice · 02/11/2023 18:52

Are you looking to do it by public transport from Fairfield hospital in Bury?
To get to Bury town centre from Picadilly is quite easy as you get just get a Metrolink (the tram)
If you then have to get to Fairfield hospital it's more awkward as you will have to change to a bus at Bury town centre. Or get a bus to Bury then out again which will be over an

You just need to go one way? Not return journey each day?
The bus is capped at £2 per journey
Tram is £4.60 to Bury

If you're just doing singles buy a single ticket in each direction every day. If you need return journeys get a 7 day bus and tram bee ticket

The Metrolink goes between Manchester Piccadilly and Bury. It takes about 30mins. Some are direct but you may have to change at Piccadilly gardens. I think it’s about £7.20 return. Also I assume you mean Fairfield Hospital which is a few miles out of Bury. You could get a bus, the bus station is directly next to the tram stop. Taxi would probably be about £5

bookish83 · 02/11/2023 18:55

It would be a tram from Piccadilly to the metro in Bury, then a bus/taxi to Fairfield Hospital (assuming that is the one you mean) or do you mean Crumpsall/North Manchester?

I would get the metro rather than a bus from Manchester as the bus would take so long!

bookish83 · 02/11/2023 18:58

To add you can walk to Fairfield from the Metro should you want to/have the time/fitness levels

Its about 4ish miles round trip but sometimes you want the walk or fresh air, especially in rush hour!

x2boys · 02/11/2023 18:59

Its a while since I have been to Fairfield hidpital.but there used to be a bus stop right outside the hospital which goes to.Bury interchange .

Thank you everyone, we're (well DS) is actually at Cygnets mental health inpatient. Im trying to get my head round it all.

I'm probably going to try an stay in the Premier Inn at the interchange and going to try and stay a couple of times a week.
Google gives either a split option of bus and tram or I'm thinking a walk back to Bury interchange. So one way a few tones a week

Does the bus really only cost £2 to go all the way from Bury to Manchester?!

Yes it’s only £2 for one bus journey, no matter how far anywhere in Greater Manchester. Hope your DS is ok.

bookish83 · 02/11/2023 20:42

Cygnet is walkable from the metro, about 20 mins away.

The bus is cheaper but slower than the metro, so the cost saving doesnt equate to as much when thinking about how much longer it takes but a few buses will take you from Bury interchange to Piccadilly eg 163

That's not far from the town centre it has a pretty frequent bus route or you could walk if you wanted too and then get a,tram?

x2boys · 02/11/2023 20:50

Yeah its only two.pound for a bus.ticket its a standard fare so.its that much if its a short or much longer journey

Icedlatteplease · 03/11/2023 08:12
