Any tips to help me tolerate contact lenses?

I started wearing contact lenses about a year ago as I work in a hospital and my glasses were fogging up when I was wearing a mask. I need them for reading and a bit of distance.
I am really struggling to tolerate my contacts. My eyes are red and gritty and I can only really keep them in for about 6 hours then I feel like they're burning my eyes. My optician says my eyes are a bit dry but nothing to worry about. My contacts already are the comfort ones but she suggested another brand that have the most oxygen permeability-I unfortunately found these even worse so I'm back to my original ones.
I put drops in regularly and tried the ointment at night but stopped the ointment as it blinds me!
Any tips to try and tolerate the buggers?
I currently use Vision Express Eyexpert Pure (1 day toric for astigmatism).

I have been using contact lens for over twenty years , I only use Bausch and laumb brand lens and Bausch and Lomb Renu solution , I put a drop of solution ( if u use the small travel pack size bottle easy to control ) on the lens before wearing it , a friend also suggested keeping the solution in fridge some time and using it as above helps

Another vote for Acuvue Oasys for astigmatism. I have tried various dailies and put up with them for holidays etc, but the two week Acuvue are so much more comfortable.
Also, I gave up over-paying via opticians years ago, I now order them through Vision Direct. You'll be able to get a free trial though.

Thanks. I'm sceptical that will work though. I already have the comfort ones and when I tried the highest percentage oxygen brand from Vision Express I found them even worse. I imagine I would need to change optician to try a third brand?not sure.
I would go to another optician for another brand if I thought it might help but I wonder if most dailies are similar. Don't know.

I've tried loads of brands including more expensive ones, toric ones for astigmatism, gas permeable ones and other ones the optician was convinced would be amazing, but the only ones that have ever suited me are Acuvue Oasys. I've had them for years and years now and live in fear of them ever being discontinued.

Thanks all. How do I drop one drop if the solution into the contact lenses? If it's on my finger and if I tip the solution from the pack onto my contact lenses would it not just fall off my finger?
Sorry-still learning!

Buy a bottle of saline solution from your optician. Put the lens in your hand and rinse it then put it on your finger to go in.
Take the bottle to work to refresh them during the day

@Imreallytiredandanxioustoday and @BusterGonad thanks-I'll try that.
I've tried Acuvue as a trial but these were actually worse than the brand I'm currently using (think these are Bausch and Lomb). I've got both hopes for the Alcon ones though they are a fortune!

No problem. It was actually the optician who recommended cleaning new lenses, that was many years ago but I still do it.

Put the eye drop onto your lens while it's on your finger, before you put it on your eye. TIe good care of your eyelids using specialist lid care quotes such as blephaclean, available of prescription. Also the ju is an product is just a lubricant it doesn't heal the dryness on your eye, I use thealoz duo and it's much better and longer lasting.

I've always worn monthly one and never had any issues.
I have friends who always complained about dry eyes and sore heads/sore eyes and could never see why.

Then realised they wore dailies

I was given a box of daily lenses free by my optician as he was changing supplier. Omg my eyes were so gritty, sore and my head ached after about 6 hour's wear.

I told my friends this and they changed to monthly lenses and they no longer have the issues.

I think its because the lenses are thicker they hold onto the fluid better and don't become dry. Ive been wearing lenses for almost 30 years and have no issues at all.

Maybe worth a try with monthly ones. They are easy to clean just wash your hands and use the solution and then usually soak in the same solution overnight.

@70sDuvet I think I'll all about monthlies too while I'm at the optician next week. There might be less plastic waste too with monthly contacts.

@pharmachameleon hope they work for you
It's worth a try!
I love wearing lenses, I'm VERY short sighted so find even trying to put on makeup impossible without them. Plus I hate the general fogginess when going outside.
Also no more tears when cutting onions!

pharmachameleon · 13/11/2023 11:32

I've got the Alcon ones in today in work and so far they are amazing. Hopefully they will still feel good at the end of the day. My optician is also going to order in a trial of monthly contact lenses for me so I'll give those a try too but I think I'll be sticking with the Alcon.
Thanks everyone for great advice!
