*Is, not of.

I’m having a shit day, quite literally. Some kind of major plumbing problem, my bath is full of sewage. The water company are on their way out apparently, I’m at work so quite limited in what I can do.

I had my 20 week scan this morning and apparently I have a low lying placenta. If it doesn’t move in time I’ll need a c section. I’m guttted and feeling really fragile.

Please cheer me up with your reassuring tales of low lying placentas.

So sorry to hear. I have no cheery stories but just wanted to send empathy!

Deathraystare · 02/11/2023 11:39

Also no help but God speed the water company! Truly a shit day for you.

Anniecott · 02/11/2023 11:53

I also had a low lying at that scan went back for another scan nearer the end of the pregnancy and all was in the right place for a normal birth, so try not to worry.
Good luck with the other problems, I can't offer anything cheery on that one I'm afraid. X

I had low lying placentas at both my 20 week scans and spent a week in hospital at 23 weeks due to bleeding caused by the placenta with my first baby. Both moved in time for natural births so you might not need a c section yet. I had lots of extra scans towards the end. I hope your day improves and you get your plumbing sorted!

Ifitistobesaid · 02/11/2023 12:03

My placenta was very low at my 20 week scan but high by the next check at 32 weeks. But I needed a c-section anyway as she was breech. Hopefully you won’t need one but it really wasn’t so bad.

Katherineryan · 02/11/2023 12:09

I’m sorry to hear all of this!

With regard to your placenta, I had this too with my 2nd child, however, by the time I was 30 wks and had another scan it had moved and all was well and I delivered her via normal vaginal delivery.

i hope the water company can sort out your drains today.

CornishGem1975 · 02/11/2023 12:09

Also had a low-lying placenta that completely shifted by 32 weeks. Then baby turned breech. Then he turned again but I still ended up with an emergency c-section during labour. It is what it is.

LolaJ87 · 02/11/2023 12:10

I had a low lying placenta and baby was breech for ages - both righted themselves! Hope yours does too.

Alloveragain3 · 02/11/2023 12:10

Oh OP, big hugs.

My placenta was low at 20 weeks too, but the vast majority move up.

I had a scan at 29 weeks because I was due to go on a flight and didn't want to go if still low lying, and it had shifted right up.

LuckyLois · 02/11/2023 12:17

I had a low-lying placenta all the way through my second pregnancy and so had a planned c section at 38 weeks. Although I was quite taken aback at the time that my placenta wasn't going to be one of the ones that moved out of the way, as they said it likely would, and I subsequently had a couple of small bleeds that I was kept in and monitored for, the c section itself was great! Very calm, nice to have a definite birth date for childcare reasons and recovery went well. My point I guess is that, worst case, placenta praevia is monitored closely and you will be taken care of to ensure you and the baby stay well.
No positive advice on the sewage though, that's (literally) shit l hope it gets sorted soon.

batbiscuits · 02/11/2023 12:20

Sorry you're having a shit day.

Is this your first child? I had complete placenta previa at my 20 week scan and was told that it's more likely to be fine for a vaginal delivery if it's your first baby as it usually clears. I managed a vaginal birth. Fingers crossed.

TakeMe2Insanity · 02/11/2023 12:22

I’ve had a low lying placenta the whole pregnancy. At 34 weeks I had a bleed and it was measured at 1 cm from the exit. I’ve had my 36 week scan and it’s now 2cm away so considered safe. So things can change a lot at the end.

thecatwiththesilveryfur · 02/11/2023 12:40

Sorry about your rubbish day, OP!

I don't have any experience of a low lying placenta, but my ELCS was the most wonderful experience, and recovery was really easy. So if it does end up like that, don't be sad - sometimes it's the best option!

Wish you good luck.
