In this horrible weather, how are you making your home feel cosy today?

For us, it's unremitting rain and minor flooding today, but no real danger. I'm working from home, so get to cosy up and watch the weather from indoors. Anyone else in this lucky situation? DH, DC and even the dogs have all gone out in it.

I've confined myself to the kitchen table with my laptop. I've lit the posh 'special occasion' scented candle (Diptyque Feu de Bois) and it's shimmering on the wondowsill. I've put a lovely Indian block print tablecloth on the table, and there are flowers. The oven can stay on all morning to warm the room, and I'm putting in a series of casseroles, baked potatoes, apple crumbles and roasting veg, so as not to waste the heat.

Dogs are out on their morning packwalk and will come in caked in mud, so they've got old pillows with towels on top in front of the oven for when they get back.

I'm having a jacket potato for lunch, it's already in on a low heat, and I might snuggle on the sofa to watch Race Across the World while I eat it, under a big blanket. But until then, the massive report I have to write is a blank document....

What's everyone else up to?

I’m just getting the fire going. It’s not raining here at the moment but it’s grey and miserable.

PinkyDinkyDoodle · 02/11/2023 09:35

The log burner will be going on soon. It isn’t too bad here at the moment so I’m getting chores done.

Ifailed · 02/11/2023 09:35

I'm treating it just like any other day, it'll be wet and windy, much like most days this time of year.

ShirleyPhallus · 02/11/2023 09:38

Is this your actual morning or is this the scene setting for a chick lit involving a poet who has lost her mojo and moves away to a rugged coastal town and meets a hunky fisherman?

Imamumgetmeoutofhere · 02/11/2023 09:39

One child at school, one home.

Rain has just restarted and it's so windy.

Blinds are shut, candles lit and heating on. Snuggly blankets and a hot chocolate.

Other than that, usual business today. Day off work so housework etc then school run at 3pm

Mummysalwaysright · 02/11/2023 09:41

We've got the logburner running full power; I've made a casserole which can steep all day, and we have the heating on in the other rooms. I'm going to bake some bread later - partly so we have bread with the casserole, but also as it makes the house smell so lovely!

I have a horrible cold and have pushed all the work I was going to do today to Friday.

I plan to sit on the sofa with blankets and cats and read my new library books.

Ollifer · 02/11/2023 11:13

Well I'll be entertaining a five year old so no cosying down with blankets or log burners for me 😁

fetchacloth · 02/11/2023 11:13

Another day, another day of rain like so many since July 😪

The cat's happy though, he's got a new bed 😊

😂

Is the oven actually an Aga?

LaChatte · 02/11/2023 11:17

Nowhere near the storm (south of France) but the weather is miserable none the less. I've lit a scented candle, the heating is on (it's not cold but it helps with the damp), and am making mincemeat (the Poncetastic Christmas thread is wonderful) and pumpkin pie so the house smells lovely. Oh and soft fluffy socks with scatter cats helps with the cosy feeling.

TotalOverhaul · 02/11/2023 11:19

I have loads of side lamps on to create a cosy glow. Lovely wool blanket, massive oversized sweater on loan from DS and yesterday I made a lovely carrot and chipotle soup for lunch. Very warming.

D20 · 02/11/2023 11:22

It’s not too bad here but I’ve been prompted to put a baking potato in the oven for lunch!

Stresa22 · 02/11/2023 11:23

Fireplace going, small lamp letting off a lovely glow across the room and I’m wearing a new fleece top that I bought yesterday.

JenniferJupiterVenusandMars · 02/11/2023 11:30

We’re away so sitting under a crocheted blanket that I finished earlier this week, drinking milky coffee and watching the sea as the tide comes in. The heating’s on, the dog’s snoring on the settee and DH has gone off to fill the car up before we head home in a couple of days.
We can see the storms coming towards us from miles away across the bay, really fascinating!

Coshofliving · 02/11/2023 11:31

Surprised you've got time to work after all that fannying around with candles and casseroles.

I've got the heating on. I find that's the best way to stay warm when it's cold.

monicagellerbing · 02/11/2023 11:37

Jesus. It sounds like the start of a shit cheesy Christmas movie on channel 5.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 02/11/2023 11:42

I’m wearing my sheepskin house boots from Celtic, several years old now with very worn inner soles, but recently revived with lovely new sheepskin insoles - best £15 I’ve spent in ages.

DeanElderberry · 02/11/2023 11:51

I'm in Ireland, and have blue sky, sunshine (warm) (ish) and a light breeze. I've celebrated by getting a load of washing out on the line and picking up a dozen or so windfall Bramley apples.

Ihateslugs · 02/11/2023 11:52

I’m sat fully dressed in bed waiting for heating engineer to get my heating back on! It’s packed up over night for three days this week and I thought I ought to get it looked at rather than keep on adding more water to re- pressure the boiler. My feet and nose are cold even with a thick fleece on over my normal clothes.

Gnomegnomegnome · 02/11/2023 11:55

Curtains shut and scared dog under the blanket helping me. Every time I come out of a meeting the woolly hat goes back on.

Iamonetoo · 02/11/2023 12:02

Being warm is such an incredible feeling, I thank my lucky stars for heating all the time, I wouldn't survive 3 minutes without it, as for living 500 years ago, forget it. That's how I feel happy even when the weather is sub optimal.
