Just spayed dog - advice please!

Posting here for traffic apologies… my dog has just been spayed today and after a drowsy afternoon has now found her energy and she will not keep the collar on. She gets it off by going crazy within two seconds and I’m worried she’s going to hurt herself.

should we just do no collar? I’ve ordered a new one that’s like Velcro and fabric that’s coming tomorrow.. can stay up tonight.

is it going to do more damage to let her go nuts trying to get it off than it is to not have it in?

she’s quite a big puppy, 18kgs.

You could try a tee shirt for tonight, she might tolerate that better than a collar (they are horrible, I don’t blame her!) But it depends on how dexterous she is, mine couldn’t fight her way out of a paper bag, whereas my friend’s dog is a Houdini who can escape from every surgical suit and collar contraption

We used an inflatable collar which was more comfortable, plus a MediVest. She wasn't very happy, but it helped.

Trying to keep her calm and not jumping up on the sofa was a waste of time! We just created a couple of steps out of cardboard boxes to try to stop her jumping as much

Thanks, we’ve put a T shirt on… she’s unimpressed 😅hopefully it sees us through until the other collar (like yours!) comes in the morning. Why are plastic cones still a thing?!

Ohhhh… collie?! Smarts plus opinions. Good luck :)

Australian shepherd :) she’s the absolute best. The T shirt seems to be doing the trick!! Seems like it’s kryptonite and we’ve had to help her lay in her crate…

Feel like when my kids were small and will lay on the floor next to her to make sure she’s okay!

Mine did fine on a body suit. Didn't want to chew the wound.

Damaged paws on the other hand, require dressings, socks, vet wrap and full vigilance.

Just accept that one of you will be staying awake on the sofa tonight.
