Roasting tins

My mother doesn't know how to operate a smart phone or a computer and she doesn't use the internet. She saw an advert on TV for baking trays and roasting tins all half price.

She asked me to check online and she wants me to show her so that she can get me to buy one for the Christmas for dinner.

We already had a roasting tin but for some reason she chucked it away. It was about 13 years old but it was still good.

Anyways, i think maybe she might be a bit too pre mature rushing out to get me to buy a roasting tin for the Christmas dinner when it's still weeks away and maybe there might be other sales too in the coming weeks. She does sees sale and thinks we should get it no matter what.

So there's a roasting tin for 15 quid. Half price. Do you think that's good deal or would I be able to get a better deal and get one cheaper.

The thing is she doesn't cook any more and she won't ever use a roasting tin again until the next Christmas and it breaks my heart to spend that kind of money and also a shopping fee on top of it when a disposable tray would be more than enough.

I live at home with her and when I came home last night she sprung her request for an internet shop on me but I was genuinely tired. Also I know her like the back of my hand. If I pulled out the internet and showed her roasting tins she will say that there's no point ordering one item and she will get me to sprawl theought the shop aimlessly not knowing what she wants to buy for the sake of it. I told her I was tired and going to bed.

Then when I was getting ready for work, she started on my back again to go online and shop for a roasting tin but she wants to maintain control and she wants me to sit down and show her the tins. Again I was under pressure to get out the door to work and I wasn't in any place to go any buy a roasting tin at that time.

I wouldn't buy a roasting tin without examining it -- they can vary a lot in quality.
Is it sturdy? Is it big enough for a Christmas roast? Sometimes, especially if it's reduced, it can be smaller than you expect - or need. Or conversely will it fit in your oven?
And does your Mum just love a bargain and doesn't look any further than that!
Disposable trays are fine but you do have to be careful putting them into and taking them out of the oven fully loaded...

Who is paying for the tin?

My opinion is if your mum is paying, then its up to her what she spends her money on and I would just order the tin for her.

If you're paying and don't want it, I would just say a cheap disposable would do for the one day a year you will use it and go with that!

It will be me paying.

I don't mind getting a tin but just not right now.

I am anxious about sitting down with my mother to show her online shops when I am at work a lot and I get tired easily. I just don't have time for it because it won't be going in for a tray, she will want to look at more.

I have a scoville never stick 35cm bought in Asda its great, washes really easily, is black and speckled so looks great too currently selling at £17

But no in your circumstances i would say no if she was expecting me to pay. A throw away one will save on the washing up.

A couple of years ago I decided I couldn't be doing with the faff of cleaning roasting tins at Christmas, so I bought disposable foil trays. There is enough washing up to do anyway so I'm not going to do roasting tins as well. See if you can persuade her to go down that route!
