Any dentists/dental nurses around please?

Having horrible toothache in a tooth that dentist has said will need to come out soon. Soon has come quicker than anticipated ☹️and I'm hoping it can be removed tomorrow when I ring in the morning.

However, I've just taken x2 Aspirin 300mg for pain relief - THEN read about not taking aspirin before dental extraction!

Will I still be able to have it removed or will I have to wait a few days?

Bumping this. 😬🪥

Am not a dentist but I wouldn't worry

Aspirin is a blood thinner so you're more likely to bleed after an extraction but I'm sure a single dose the night before won't be an issue
It's more if you'd been taking it daily over a period of time, you might need to stop for a few days

Aah right, thanks for your reply. Will be sat outside the dentist tomorrow morning. 🙂

Make sure you tell the dentist though. They may need to get you to bite down for a little longer than normal.

Tarmaced · 31/10/2023 22:50

👍 Yes, I will tell them, thanks @Pinkpinkplonk

How did it go @Tarmaced ?

Tarmaced · 01/11/2023 22:47

He did a temporary filling whilst I have a think about what to have after the extraction. Have to choose from a denture, a bridge, or an implant. 🫤

However, I am pain free, thank God!

That must be a relief

Those all sound very different cost wise...

I'd consider how long each would last

Pinkpinkplonk · 01/11/2023 22:49

Which tooth is it? Is no replacement not an option in this case?

Tarmaced · 02/11/2023 23:00

Not really @Pinkpinkplonk , it's an upper tooth a few along from one of my 2 front teeth so would be noticeable, I think.

OP posts:
Tarmaced · 02/11/2023 23:02

@Tilllly the cost would be £350 for the first 2 procedures & £3K for an implant.
That's NHS - I imagine it'd be double that for private...

I was told they don't do implants on the NHS, I think you'll find the implant is private. Most NHS dentists do private too, i was quoted £2,500 for front tooth implant about 18months ago. I've got a front one that he wanted to take out as too fragile to fill but I'm hanging on as long as possible as he said you have to have no tooth for three months prior to the new tooth to let the gum/bone settle down😭

if its any help I had 5th from the centre out many years ago and gradually the gap has virtually closed up so that you wouldn't know i am missng a tooth there.

Loopzy · 03/11/2023 00:58

@Mossstitch Your dentist should be able to put you a temporary bridge in, during the bone graft/growth and healing stage. I had an abscess and needed my upper front tooth out. I had impressions done and a temporary bridge made, before I had my tooth out, so I never had a gap. I think it's called a Maryland bridge.

Tarmaced · 03/11/2023 06:54

@Mossstitch I'll have to check if that is private. I know he does do private work, so it possibly is.

Originally my dentist suggested a Maryland bridge but now says I can't have that because the teeth either side have to be the same size as the one being extracted & mine aren't, so it won't work.

Not sure why he suggested that in the first place - he could see the teeth were different sizes then!

I would say that’s private prices

blibblibs · 03/11/2023 08:16

They are definitely private prices. An extraction or root canal treatment would be £70.70 on the NHS in England, cheaper in Wales or Scotland.
And the NHS only do implants in exceptional circumstances, usually at a dental hospital and therefore free.

Tarmaced · 03/11/2023 12:15

I've just checked on the NHS website & from reading that I think if I go with option 1 or 2 I should be paying £306, which includes the extraction.

I will be speaking to my dentist because I'm an NHS patient. 🤔

Yep, anything that requires being made in a lab will be a band 3 which is £306.80.
This also includes anything required in a band 2, so your extraction.
And I had an immediate Maryland bridge put in after an extraction of my upper left 4. I was told it may not sit right after healing and bone resorption but nearly 3 years on its absolutely fine.
