8 days - dh and dc2 away - what to do?

Not in a "I won't cope" way, more a freedom way Grin

Dc1 will still be home, but at (secondary) school mon-fri 8-4.15. I've got the week off work, and want to get myself organised to have a week which is both productive and fun

Dh and dc2 leave Sat 8am and get home the following Sat about 5pm.

All I can think so far is take dc1 for a night away on the first Saturday, and possibly try a bit of decorating.

Wwyd? How would you fill your week?

I would try spend one day doing something really nice for myself, a spa day or something like that. Defo some decorating, be great to get that done before Christmas. And defo at least one lie in 😴

SecondUsername4me · 01/11/2023 08:56

I might have to save the lie in for the final Friday and hop back into bed after seeing dc1 off to school. If I do that Monday, it'll make me want to do it every day.

Never even thought of a spa day! I love getting a facial, so I will look to book something in.

I would do absolutely nothing, no cooking, washing up or cleaning! Make up for years of missed lie ins and sleep all for a week! Only in my wildest dreams would this happen to me, I am soooooo jealous right now, been awake with DS4 since 5am!

I would do all the cupboards and throw out as much stuff as possible. Focus on bedrooms.

I'd get into a TV series, read a book, go out and about.

One of the days I’d spend just watching Netflix and not doing anything (that probably says a lot about my life being chaotic), meet a friend for lunch, do some Christmas shopping, have long baths,

SecondUsername4me · 01/11/2023 09:14

Dc1 has already planned out the take aways she wants us to have every evening (normally a 1/2 times a month) so not cooking is going to be very easy, if very expensive!

I would have a different focus each day. A domestic day - get the household jobs done. A spa day for mental health. A fitness day - walk in the woods? A Christmas prep day - shopping or wrapping or planning. Then Friday becomes a lazy day, PJs and a book!
I would plan all that and end up only doing a fraction of it!!

DC would be off sick that week and I'd be booking a week in the sun.

If we were able to keep dc1 off, we would all 4 of us go do what dc2 and dh are doing. Sadly we can't.

Well, only partly sadly as I get a much quieter week at home!

Does DC1 mind being left out of the holiday?

SecondUsername4me · 01/11/2023 15:51

She's not bothered tbh. It's a regular trip we take most years, so not missing anything she's not done before, and the trip is a wider group one, so couldn't just switch dates as its our family that tags onto a wider group's plans. Sometimes all 4 of us skip it all together.

It's just unfortunate that this year half our children cannot go, and dh is off that week anyways so those two would just be at home that week.

We've already checked equivalent dates for the following year, and all four of us could go if we want to.
