JL have said they can’t renew my car insurance - does this count as refusing insurance?

Car insurance due for renewal mid November but John Lewis have written to say that “having reviewed your current details, we won’t be able to renew your Car Insurance policy”. Nothing has changed so I don’t know why.
The price comparison websites ask if you have ever been refused insurance - DH says they haven’t refused me insurance as they did insure me and indeed are still doing so currently, so I should answer no. But I always worry about having to be accurate with insurance and technically they have refused to renew. But of course I’m worried I’ll never find a new quote if I say yes or it will be extortionate Confused
Car is an ancient Land Rover Discovery if relevant - a quick google found another Land Rover owner refused renewal by JL who thought it was the car type that was the issue.
I’m on hold to JL at the moment to try to find out more and have been for 8 minutes and counting, hence thinking it might be worth seeing what MN thinks!

Basically they're no longer offering a certain type of insurance. Which is different to not insuring you.

This is actually very common where I work as I work for a generalist insurer so they don't insure classic cars, sports cars, modified cars etc. as soon as they provide the car details (at the very beginning of the quote) we tell them we can't insure this car.

In our case when we do a quote we only take their full details at the very end of the call so there is no record kept of who it is in our case.

Tesco declined to quote to insure my 3 year old Citroen last week.

I felt most insulted!

What!

Perhaps NFU Insurance might be worth a try for those of you with mature Land Rovers.

What!

I know 😲

Direct line then quoted £1200 and NFU £800 so I stuck with my original quote of £380! It’s all gone mad!

They refused to insure my eight year old Hyundai too! Bonkers.

I went with Admiral in the end.
