What do you do after work?

Just that really 😄

I'm mid 30s, single with no kids and at the moment feel like I don't do enough with my time after work. Not sure if the dark nights are making me less productive and feel more 'snug indoors'.

So... what do you do after work? Hobbies? Clubs? Etc?

Thanks for the (hopeful) inspo 😁

I don't get home until 7pm and have to get up again at 3am for my next shift so I don't have a lot of time but I like to either read a book or do some sort of craft activity like crochet or painting after my shower and dinner, I find it helps me calm down from the chaos of work and relax before bed

I'm 40's, no kids and WFH. Until recently, I'd potter in the garden and pick veg. Throw the ball to to the dog or take her for a walk around the block.

Now its darker, I starting cooking dinner after work and either myself or DH
might vacuum

I crochet whilst watching TV and donate them to hospices or charity shops, but otherwise, don't have any hobbies. I'm thinking of digging out my Christmas cards because I have alot of family/friends abroad and always end up sending them too late!

Not in your situation but do have a lot of time to myself in the evenings.

I’m usually out once a week
I may go to the gym
I love sewing, I bought a cheap basic machine during lockdown.
I sometimes sign up for an evening class

ReadyForPumpkins · 31/10/2023 13:46

Hobbies. I have kids so I spend a lot of time taking them to clubs. But otherwise I do fitness classes, ice skating, plays the piano and relearning school French on duolingo. I'm also on the school PTA.

When single, no kids, I used: to

go to a bar with some work friends
go for a swim or a run
do all my chores so the weekends were completely free
cook complicated food
clothes shopping - in the days when real shops were open until 8pm
do another chunk of my MBA

Serious nostalgia 😀

Londonscallingme · 31/10/2023 13:48

Before kids - go to the gym, go gif a walk, meet friends for dinner

Mazuslongtoenail · 31/10/2023 13:54

I have kids but if I didn’t I’d love to:
do exercise
read
go to the cinema
do a cake decorating course
make Christmas cards
keep on top of the cleaning.

I don't tend to get in from work until 7pm at the earliest. So I get things ready for the next day (make lunch, iron clothes). I then do about 30 - 45 mins of yoga, make dinner and then watch some TV or read or perhaps some Duolingo (although usually try to do this earlier in the day). .

At least one night a week I may go for drinks with work colleagues, meet friends after work or do something like shopping or visit an exhibition.

headcheffer · 31/10/2023 13:57

I have kids. I put them to bed and then tidy up, do my skincare and go to bed myself to watch tv for a bit or scroll on my phone!

Ginmonkeyagain · 31/10/2023 13:57

If I am WFH I use the hour in the evening I would commute to do household tasks or some admin for a volunteer position I hold.

PawsisShady · 31/10/2023 14:03

Exercise (indoors, spin bike, weights)
Batch cook
Watch films
Cleaning

Boring stuff really!
Summer I do outdoor swimming

VeridicalVagabond · 31/10/2023 14:04

I'm early 30's, one teen child but she's always off out doing stuff or squirrelled away in her room crafting or listening to music or (hopefully) studying.

I wfh most days so when I clock off at 17:00 I go for a walk straight away to get out of work mode.

In winter I do like to stay indoors. I'll read, do some crafts (alone or with my DD if she's feeling social), bake, watch a film. Nothing hugely exciting. On office days I'll sometimes go for a drink or meal with colleagues, fitness classes or gym, cinema maybe. Occasionally bowling as my work best friend is obsessed with it.

Board games with husband and sometimes daughter also become a standard in the winter. At the moment it's the Disney Villainous game.

I've decided to try my hand at making posh chocolates this year for husband and DDs advent calendars so that's occupying a lot of my evenings.

But you don't have to do anything. If sitting around snug and cosy indoors makes you happy, do that!

CobwebsAndCauldrons · 31/10/2023 14:06

As with some PP - when I was living alone I would use the evenings to get as much housework etc done as possible, so the place was clean and tidy and ready for me to enjoy the weekend without a list of dull jobs.

if not that then I would stay in town after work to meet friends or do some shopping.

If not that, then I was studying for a degree so did that.

If not that, then I'd be in the garden or out for a walk (in the summer).

If not that, then I'd be on the sofa with a good book and a glass of wine.

Sob! I miss all that! I mean, I could read and drink wine now but the house is a constant mess so it's never quite as relaxing...

WinterIsHere1990 · 31/10/2023 14:07

Thanks @everyone! 👏

Apart from walking the dog and usual cooking and chores, I felt like I 'should' have been doing more. As much as I would like to stay cosy with a nice glass of wine or 2 every night.. I don't think my purse, figure or liver would thank me!

You've given me lots of ideas, thank you 😊
