Entry level camera for my 15 years old daughter for Xmas. Budget £100

Just that really.
My daughter would like to get a camera for Xmas and the budget is £100 ish.

What's a good point and shoot camera for someone who's only ever used a phone camera previously.

I'm not sure what she'll use it for, probably taking photos of our cat and her friends.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Entry level suggests she wants to learn photography? But for a point and shoot, depending on her phone she may as well just use that. Tbh most modern day phone cameras are just as good as £100 point and shoot.
If she wants to really get into photography, then a good second hand DSLR camera would be my suggestion. Go to somewhere like the 'London Camera Exchange' or designated camera / optics (binoculars/ telescope etc) shop. They'll be able to advise you. Alternatively if you know a bit about cameras you could look at EBay. Canon and Nikon would be my top picks, closely followed by Olympus. Something like the Nikon D50 or D40 DSLR (will be around your price mark, for basic lens and camera body). Do a bit of research about shutter usage, as cameras have a finite number of times the shutter opens and closes, the lower the shutter usage number the better (this information is generally found in the settings menu, depends on make and model though) and make sure there is no fogging of the lens, the tech is a bit older now and they only take the 2gb (or lower) memory cards, but the photo quality is brilliant, and they'd have plenty of functions for your DD to learn and use. Eg you can go auto focus and auto program for point and shoot mode, or you can go to manual settings, manual aperture, and decide film speed settings which can give some really cool dramatic effects (at £100 you might need to get a new battery, and possibly a charger, check what comes with the camera)
If you wanted a new camera then at £100 you are better off going for a lower functioning decent brand (still canon, Nikon and Olympus, that would be my order of preference) compared to a never before heard of all singing all dancing brand which will last approximately 10 minutes!
Fuji, Kodak, Konica and Polaroid (wrt polaroid I don't know if they've improved in very recent years, but personally I'd avoid them) are really variable, they used to be good quality cameras, but they seemed to struggle with competition once the digital market got underway*, and I've found them pretty unreliable, they seem to break the day after warranty has run out! (Having said that I have a digital Kodak point and shoot, which has gone on for ever, approximately 8 years old, battery still holds charge and good quality pics).
*as a caveat to this I'd just add my Fuji camera which was made in Japan, was a far superior model to its 'identical' counterpart made in a different country.
I'd always favour a camera made in Japan, as the workmanship and components are far better quality, than when made under licence in another country. (I spend my life taking cameras apart and repairing them where possible).
Alternatively have a browse on Amazon for digital cameras and a good read of Amazon reviews, some reviews will be baloney, but it's normally easy to spot the codswallop reviews!

Thanks very much @truetruebarneymcgrew for such a helpful and detailed reply.
I did think a phone camera would probably be as good as most point and shoot cameras.

It did cross my mind to buy a DSLR camera off eBay but I didn't realise how cheap they had become.
Most of the Nikon D50 or D40 DSLRs that sell on eBay go for less than a £100.
I'll have a chat with her to see if she would be interested in one of those.
Just curious, of the Nikon D50 or D40, which do you think would suit her best in terms of ease of use, or are they fairly similar?
