My hair flicks out like Miss Hoolie!

It's a chin-length bob that I'm trying to grow out, it's too short to tie up. I usually just let it dry because I don't have time to blow-dry it, plus it will just end up damaged if I blow dry it every day?
I really don't know what else to do with it, I'm tempted to cut it shorter, the flicks are ridiculous. Anyone else have this?

I have the same but thicker so I look like a weird sci fi character. I don't leave the house without drying and straightening. Not found any other solution!

Pigeonqueen · 30/10/2023 20:33

That made me laugh 😂 my hair is the same.

You’ll just have to get Archie the Inventor to create some sort of hair taming device 😁

Sounds like a few of us are sufferers! I forgot about Archie 😂 might just cut it off, I'm sick of this

Mine is juuust past shoulders with a few layers. It looks like a fluffy rim. Hate it!!! I've had to start straightening it, which I never usually do. Was a haircut error, now waiting for it to get a bit longer.

ArethaQ · 30/10/2023 20:37

Is there a way to straighten/blow-dry daily without causing any damage?

@Pigeonqueen thank God for Archie !!

ArborealArdour · 30/10/2023 22:22

Have you tried using curlers to make it curl the other way or at least downwards?
I haven't tried myself but Google says the results look promising. I have this issue too.

SpringIntoChaos · 30/10/2023 22:24

Have you tried Velcro rollers? Wind them in the opposite direction to your flicks, spray with product and blast with the hairdryer just quickly to 'set' then leave in whilst you're getting ready.

This is my morning routine 🤣 Works for me 👍

How do you know what size to buy? Also do you only do the tips of
your hair>

junbean · 30/10/2023 22:48

Heatless curlers!

SpringIntoChaos · 31/10/2023 05:56

@ArborealArdour I have a set (from Superdrug) that are different sizes...so depending what length/type your hair is, there's always one size that works 🤷‍♀️ It's a bit of trial and error at first I guess.

I use a fairly large size to counteract 'the flick' and wind them 'under' the whole length, but everyone's hair is different (mine is soft/fine with a few layers).

The set I've got were £10 and I think there's 15 in the bag.

Tighginn · 31/10/2023 06:31

My hair does this, but only on one side, I look nuts😂

MushMonster · 31/10/2023 06:36

Have you tried rolllers? Wash your hair in the afternoon/ evening. Roll it inwards and leave it , preferably overnight. It should either flick inwards or remain straight.

CryptoFascist · 31/10/2023 07:19

Your hair is probably wavy rather than straight. Have a look at curly girl method for wavy hair.

Vinorosso74 · 31/10/2023 07:27

Another one here! I finished chemo a couple of years ago so have been going through some interesting hair growth. I cold capped so kept some hair then lost it down the middle of my head when I started hormone blockers (it's back now).
Mine is now at that awkward kink out stage and at the time of year when it's often damp. Currently wondering whether go back to head coverings!

MrsJamin · 31/10/2023 07:29

I was going to suggest to look into curly girl method for wavy hair - if you have frizzy hair with flicks out it often means you have wavy hair.

Curlewwoohoo · 31/10/2023 09:19

How on earth do people sleep with rollers in!?

ArethaQ · 31/10/2023 09:22

Thank you everyone! When I used to have very long hair I could get it very wavy naturally so it likely is. I will give these suggestions a go.

I've got this happening since thinking it was a good idea to trim my own hair 🙄
I think it's to do with the cut, if the lower layers are even slightly shorter than the outer ones then they kinda push out against the upper ones. If you were to get a professional to trim it properly blunt then it shouldn't be so bad I think.

DappledThings · 31/10/2023 09:44

Mine does that. I never thought of it as an issue. It's just my natural hair shape. Flicks out on one side.
