How do I get out of this feel knackered, eat sugar, put on weight. cycle

I am 41 and knackered. I'm stuck in this cycle of feeling knackered and then eating sugar to compensate. I have children who don't sleep through the night so I'm exhausted from that. I badly need to lose weight but the only diet that seems to work for me is low carb and I really struggle to stick to it. Drinking loads of water helps with the snacking but then I need the toilet in the night. Struggling to get my steps in because I'm tired. The times when I get to sleep all night I feel some of my energy coming back but it never lasts and I'm back to using sugar to function again.

Have you tried Noom? I'm eating well and slowly losing weight with it.

It’s the lack of sleep, if you focus on that first then it will be easier to stick to low carb. Could you try going to bed earlier, sleep training the children, magnesium before bed or other sleep aids?

Don't have crap in the house is the only thing that works for me. So only have fruit to snack on.

Good work on identifying the problem and trying to tackle it.
I find planning helps. I plan the low carb meals, cook the low carb meals and then eat them. In some ways I do miss the freedom, of ooooh what do I fancy? But as the answer was always carbs.....
Real food is always the best answer. I have read all the books, and like to watch low carb lectures on youtube to keep the will power up.

The tiredness from broken sleep, yeah that sucks. If the kids are waking you up, there is not much you can do except try and encourage good sleeping habits. Another boring chore, I know.
I used to struggle with sleeping myself, and found that red light therapy helps. I got one of those lamp things, and that has really helped the quality of my sleep.

Give up artificial sweeteners first. This honesty worked for me, even though I was dubious when I first read it. The idea is that if you give up sweetener for just two weeks, you reduce your sugar cravings.

What I will say is that it's flipping difficult to give up artificial sweeteners as they are in so many foods and nearly all drinks. However it has worked for me. I no longer crave crap from the minute I wake up. I bake occasionally and we usually have (home made) dessert on Sundays, so I still eat sugar, just not very much.

Get sugar free choc made with coconut sugar, like the Ombar range. Good to have a treat without too much sugar. Use it as a way of weaning off sugar. Or just go cold turkey on the sugar 🙈
