If you were talking about a C/A or filling out a form, would you describe as being a professional job?

No

AQuantityOfNaughtyCats · 29/10/2023 15:41

No.

vodkaredbullgirl · 29/10/2023 15:43

No

NotAscoob · 29/10/2023 15:43

Nope

LubaLuca · 29/10/2023 15:44

No, no professional qualifications or certification required.

Movinghouseatlast · 29/10/2023 15:44

No. Teacher, yes.

WhateverMate · 29/10/2023 15:46

No

LegendsBeyond · 29/10/2023 15:48

No definitely not

Badbadbunny · 29/10/2023 15:49

No, a "professional" job is one where you've taken exams/qualifications and have approved experience, to join a "professional" body.

PaperDoIIs · 29/10/2023 15:50

No.

DisforDarkChocolate · 29/10/2023 15:51

No, I think I would put it in with administration type roles.

TroglodytesTroglodytes · 29/10/2023 15:54

It depends on the context. For example, no, if it’s a question on a job application. If it is for an application to rent a house then I would answer yes. As the question has a slightly different meaning.

WhereDoYouGo1 · 29/10/2023 15:55

No it’s not a profession.

IfYouDontAsk · 29/10/2023 15:57

Oh gosh I’m in the minority then as I’d say yes. I think it’s a hugely underrated and important job.

mushroommummy · 29/10/2023 15:58

No, it’s not a profession! The fact that someone is even asking this… 🙄

SecondUsername4me · 29/10/2023 16:00

I think typically if it requires a degree/masters/PHD or nationally recognised specific industry qualifications then it would be classed as a professional job.

It is very important, as are many other jobs, but it's not a profession.

So are lots of other jobs, that also aren't professions

Indiana2021 · 29/10/2023 16:00

It is a hugely valuable and under valued job role, but a TA wouldn't be classed as a professional role.
Teachers, educational roles requiring degree/post graduate level qualifications would be.

This. While not professional in terms of pay or required qualifications, a lot of rental listing ask for 'young professionals' and it would be fine to describe yourself as such for this purpose.

ScarletWitchM · 29/10/2023 16:02

No. A professional job is one that you have to have a qualification in

endlessfall · 29/10/2023 16:04

No but doesn't impact its worth.

I agree that for renting I would tick that box.

It is yes but that's not the same thing.

SalmonWellington · 29/10/2023 16:09

Complicated. It doesn't have the pay or status usually associated with professional jobs (rightly or wrongly!). But TAs are presumably DBS checked so in terms of being a ref for a passport application might count?

Crazycrazylady · 29/10/2023 16:10

No. Generally speaking 'professional roles' are roles requiring at least undergraduate degrees and more usually specific qualifications eg accounting exams, hr qualification etc.

Massively important role but not the same thing
