Gym - how many times a week do you go

I try and aim for x3 classes a week, usually x2 bodypump and a cardio or core class. I can’t seem to find the energy/time to go any more than that. We have a dog so I do lots of walking, but I feel like I should be going more. I have two primary aged DCs and work four days a week from home.

To fit it in there are 6am classes but it shatters me for the whole day. Help me - how do I motivate myself to do 4-5 times a week? Or am I doing enough? Others at the gym seem to go daily and they all have DCs!

None. Walk briskly for 45 mins with dog every day. Do one 60 sec plank a day while watching tv. Do dumbbells at home 3x a week plus lunges and squats. I’m old though(52) but this works for me. I never did weights before and used to run but much prefer weights at home. I’ll do lunges or squats while I’m waiting for food to cook etc.

Swim 1km 3 times a week at 6am, gym 2 lunchtimes a week, weights workout for about 40 minutes) and walk a minimum of 5 miles a day.
WFH has had such a dramatic change on how much disposable time I have to invest in myself. Plus my children are older now.

Once during the week (45-60 mins) and once at weekend (60 mins). I don't do any classes as I just find them too hard work and like to pace myself rather than really push myself. Also I have a slight mobility issue that means jogging and jumping are out and I can't do certain moves like lunging on both sides which would make classes tricky. I also do 20 mins yoga or HIIT most mornings at home.

I'm trying to lose weight on 5:2 diet (not loads, about a stone) at the moment but it's slow going so I might join the work gym so I can go there one day a week and step up my exercise, although it's a bit short on equipment that works for me. But might use going there as an excuse to finally get a PT to show me how to do some more free weights exercises.

Honestly, @RosiePeel - most of us have been there, with work and kids and not enough hours in the day, but if you can spend just 10 minutes on your non-gym days doing some work on your core you'll notice a big difference in your fitness. What I mean:

  • planks (try the Bowflex 3-minute plank)
  • short abs workout (such as Rebecca Louise's Best Abs or Caroline Girvan's Braced Core and Abs)
  • challenge yourself to do 10-15 push-ups
I also highly recommend Caroline Girvan for strength and Growingannanas for cardio if there's no time to get to the gym. Their workouts are so professional and well-structured and thus very motivating.

I go 3 times a week but I’m thinking I need to go more but do less each time.

x2 straight after work
sports class (1 hour)
Lap Swimming for (30 mins)
Strength exercises (30 mins)

x1 after dinner/late
Strength exercises (30 mins)
Lap swimming for (30 mins)
Boxing class (1.5 hours)
