Why is laundry the WORST chore and can I pay someone to put away my washing?

It's just never ending. I can't put things away fast enough and I'm feeling really overwhelmed.

2 full baskets of clean clothes, a pile on on the sofa (rendering it unusable), a dryer full of clothes and a washing machine full of washed clothes that I can't dry; the laundry hamper full.

Well plenty of cleaners would put it away for you. Could you afford one?

Failing that, can you get everyone in the family a clean laundry basket and shove in in their and then they sort it if old enough and if not old enough, you can always just use it as a wardrobe

How old are the kids?

Once secondary school, they pit away their own washing

BlastedPimples · 28/10/2023 23:37

I hate the never ending laundry pile too. Especially the putting away.

So whack on your headphones. Put on some music or a podcast and get lost in that whilst you're putting it all away

This. I also cut down the amount of clothes we all had. I limit bedsheets to two sets, one on the bed one washed and put away. We all also have our own small clean washing baskets which gets separated as it comes off the airer into the baskets then everyone has to put away their own. One wash a day keeps the house ticking over generally. I hate doing washing.

One six month old baby. Not sure he's up to it yet.

I've been thinking about getting a cleaner. It feels so overwhelming.

Just me, partner and baby. I don't know how it gets this bad constantly.

@TheBeesKnee
stop Molly coddling him!! Your future DIL won't thank you for it!!

😂😂

how many loads are you doing a week? Are your drawers/wardrobes too full?

Theoldwoman · 29/10/2023 00:15

Laundry is my favourite chore, by far.

Do a load from the beginning to the end, before starting the next one.

With an air of "you need to hear the truth here", frankly you need to just step up here and stop thinking this is a big deal.

If there is just you, DH and a load of baby clothes, that is not much washing. It's more than when it was just you and DH. Imagine my life- having DH, 4 children, 3 of which are teens... about 15 loads of washing a week. Crack on.

Baby: just pile the stuff in drawers. Waste of time hanging stuff up.

Yours and DH - how much are you wearing? Putting away a whole weeks worth of washing for a couple should be 10-15 mins or so. And there's two of you to fd this. Why us it taking so long?

If needs be, just take pile to your bedroom and leave in a pile

NewLeafAgain · 29/10/2023 00:27

This is going to sound a bit mad, but have you ever timed yourself putting away laundry?

I don't mind laundry but I hate dishes. Never freaking ending. I timed myself unloading dishwasher and realised it was less than 3 mins. In my head it took ages! (But if I didn't take that 3 mins, and a whole day of dishes are backed up then I have to unload, reload and prob hand wash some too. All that takes way longer.

Also possible you are being too particular about how things should look (Pinterest worthy drawer organisation?!) Baby clothes can mostly be shoved in a basket. Clothes you only wear at home or under a jumper - shove in a drawer. Creases won't matter much.
Dont match socks. Just chuck em in the sock drawer and match as you need them (i have all matching socks so everything is a match to everything else!)
Hubby can put away his own stuff, maybe if you are generous, hang up work shirts so he won't have to take the ironing board out.

This is one of my most hated household tasks. It’s a huge problem in our house. There are piles of clean washing everywhere.

When I do tackle it I watch tv or listen to a book/podcast.

ClaraBourne · 29/10/2023 00:32

Buy nice looking pods to separate the laundry, each person responsible once they are 10/11 . If you don't get it done at least you know where it is.

alphajuliet123 · 29/10/2023 00:40

You’ve got too many clothes if you’ve got all that just lying around!

What’s the biggest issue? Ironing? Pairing socks up? Washing stuff too frequently? We do 5 or 6 loads a week, family of 4. Most of it (towels, bedding, underwear) gets put straight away when dry. The rest of it can be a faff but I have never had clothes piled up on the sofa or anywhere else. Worst it ever gets is an Ikea blue bag full.

Me and husband at home, 1 load of washing every day, it doesn’t take long to hang it up after it’s been washed, no tumble dryer, put it on a clothes hours and then the next night I take it off and put in airing cupboard and then hang next load up, doesn’t take long at all and then after it’s been in airing cupboard for 24 hours it gets sorted out and I put mine away and husband puts his away, this is our evening routine before bed 🤣🤣
