Question for nurses/HCAs

mayreen · 28/10/2023 21:59

I'm starting my first nursing placement in the next few weeks, I'm looking for a good reasonably priced pair of shoes I can wear that won't make my feet fall apart. Our only guidance has been black leather with no holes. Don't have to be pretty, just comfortable and durable. Any suggestions would be appreciated Smile

Go to Clark’s and get the ugliest but comfiest shoes. Your feet will thank you.

LolaCrapola · 28/10/2023 22:04

Yup… Clark’s unstructured range are really comfy and fairly ugly. Or sketchers with memory foam soles… also fairly unattractive but have a bit of silver to cheer them up!

Tiredmum100 · 28/10/2023 22:06

I wear sketchers, or plain black trainers from sports direct, they were about £20.

Clarks. Plain black. Have even bought a second pair

WetBandits · 28/10/2023 22:10

Clarks Unloop. Ugly as sin but amazingly comfy!

Peablockfeathers · 28/10/2023 22:15

Clarks Unloops for me too! I've had Sketchers before as well. Agree with others to go for comfort and some you can wipe clean rather than going for a pair that looks good.

SkyFullofStars1975 · 28/10/2023 22:15

DD is a student midwife and was recommended Clarks Unloop. They're fugly as can be, but she said they're like walking on air.

LouLou198 · 28/10/2023 22:19

Nurse for 20 years, definitely go with the Clark's unloop. Worth every penny!

Hairyfairy01 · 28/10/2023 22:23

Yep, Clark's unloop. Look horrid but it's not a fashion show. Worth every penny and don't forget your student discount. Good luck on placement.

Citrusandginger · 28/10/2023 22:29

Most organisations allow fake leather as long as it's waterproof & wipeable (infection control). If your budget will stretch to leather, it's more breathable though.

I've currently got some fit flop leather trainers that are really comfortable, with good soles. They were expensive though.

Once you are earning, make sure to claim your eighteen pounds a year tax allowance (towards the occasional shoe lace) [sarcastic emoji]. your union can tell you how.

GlitterDragon · 28/10/2023 22:29

Clarks coffee cake shoes!

Lyracappul · 28/10/2023 22:55

I wouldn’t be wearing anything that fluids don’t run off… for the odd stray splash of pee and other body juices…

Headabovetheparapets · 28/10/2023 22:57

Pavers or Clarke would have my vote, treat your feet well you’ll be on them a lot. Good luck

Dottydoodoo · 29/10/2023 00:18

I'm not sure of their official name but the Clark's ones with the big wooden button on the side are the ones to go for. They are as ugly as anything, but so comfortable and my last pair lasted for years!

Gettingbysomehow · 29/10/2023 00:20

Clarkes every time, skechers are great but they get as hot as heck because of the foam soles and by the end of a long shift your feet will feel like boiled lobsters.

peakedatseven · 29/10/2023 00:27

I like the Crocs for work shoes. They cover more of your feet than normal Crocs and wipe clean.

BigYellowBear · 29/10/2023 00:51

Fit flop trainers defo

Toddlerteaplease · 29/10/2023 01:41

Clark's!

NeurodivergentBurnout · 29/10/2023 09:01

Yep another vote for Clark's unlooped. Tried a few over the years and these are comfy and supportive.

WinterCarlisle · 29/10/2023 09:07

I’m a nurse working 13 hour shifts.

You guessed it! The fugly Clark’s ones. They should use nurses as part of their advertising campaign tbh.

Also while you’re shopping get a big tube of Body Shop hemp hand cream.

Good luck!

OrlandointheWilderness · 29/10/2023 12:37

Clarks hideous nurse shoes. I'm a 3rd year and they are bloody comfy and last. Horrible to look at. 😂

Snowdropcow · 29/10/2023 12:39

I am another Shoes for Crews fan. Relatively cheap. Each pair lasts about 2 years. Very comfortable.

Snowdropcow · 29/10/2023 12:40

Best of luck for your first placement btw, I remember the excitement and nervousness well!!

rainydogday · 29/10/2023 12:44

Midwife, I wear fitflop professional clogs. Expensive but mine are about 12 years old. I got them as I had plantar facitis
