Why do my feet itch if I have two glasses of wine?

It’s so frustrating. It’s fine if I have more. Or if I have less. But if I have two glasses of wine my feet get incredibly itchy, it’s so bad it makes my legs jerk. DH has to hold them tightly until it stops.

am I just a freak or is there some logical explanation?

It's a histamine reaction. If you google 'wine feet itching' you can see it's a thing, not just you!

ColleenDonaghy · 28/10/2023 21:45

It sets my asthma off. Still drink it though!

JamSandle · 28/10/2023 21:47

I think it's the sulphates.

Try one that's sulphate free.

I too get jumpy twitchy legs. I never heard of a histamine reaction. Should I take anti histamines then?

You can do, or replace wine with something else. Or aim for a wine with no sulphates.

It definitely doesn’t happen with every wine. It’s maddening though. It’s so uncomfortable

Do you get it when you eat dried apricots? If so it's a sulphate allergy/intolerance

Kelta · 28/10/2023 22:02

I’m not sure I’ve ever eaten dried apricots. I’ll try and see

Are there wines which are sold as sulphate free

This happens me too, but also with other alcohols. Very annoying

Magicmagician · 28/10/2023 22:03

Yep, restless legs after white wine - I’ve always thought it was the sulfates too. Such a pain!

So weird OP. I've just started my third glass and was noticed my legs starting them I scrolled down to see this thread Confused

It's driving me mad

Findyourneutralspace · 28/10/2023 22:12

I get restless legs the day after drinking. Interesting about the sulphites!

Tarkan · 28/10/2023 22:12

I've had to start taking antihistamines when I go out as I have a reaction to some wines and I never know if I'll react to one in a pub or not. I know I'm reacting because my right arm turns bright red and gets burning hot. Only my right arm.

BastardtheCat · 28/10/2023 22:19

Red wine?

Try switching to French wine. Very low in sulphites.

TheLeavesAreTurningBrown · 28/10/2023 22:20

I bet your dh looks forward to you having wine?

Does he have to perform this hold in public?

SleepingisanArt · 28/10/2023 22:21

Choose an organic or biodynamic wine - it will only contain natural sulphates, not the synthetic ones you find in most (especially cheap) wine. Sulphates occur naturally in grape skin so if you can eat grapes without a problem then you'll probably be OK with organic wine.

If I’m out I have to stamp a lot..

Blimey. Are sure this isn't a Mike Leigh character sub plot?
