Selling on Vinted

I am thinking of selling on Vinted, I have bought plenty on there but want to start selling to make some extra cash and to start getting rid of stuff in my home.

Does anyone have any tips for me for selling on the site?

Do you sell a lot of stuff on there?

How much money have you made so far?

Do people constantly buy off you or is it slow selling things on there?

Does anyone have any recommendations for the best ways to package things up? I have lots of shoes that don't fit due to going up a size but procrastinating about posting them and finding the right box etc. I have some of those plastic envelope things for clothes but don't think they'd work for shoes?

I have a brain somewhere but it seems to be stuck on this problem 😂

Bohemond23 · 28/10/2023 19:32

My tips:
Put everything up by 5pm on a Friday and then monitor account through the evening
If you have a lot of one type of thing, eg a brand or a size of children’s clothes add ‘See my other x items’
List at a price 10% above what you’d sell at
Spotlight your wardrobe when you put the lot up
Accept sensible offers, or counter offer
Consider your time as money - it’s better to go to the Evri shop once to send parcels rather than 5 times

Use hashtags on your listings.

I’ve made about £500 selling clothes on Vinted, started selling last year. I keep prices low & do bundles on kids clothes to clear them more quickly. I don’t bother with measurements, but if someone asks, I get back to them.

I also buy quite a lot on Vinted too.
As a buyer - I appreciate good, honest descriptions and clear photographs.
I’ve received a few dodgy items that said in the description ‘very good’ for the condition when they’ve been satisfactory or good at best once they’ve arrived. Heavily bobbled and faded fabric is not in ‘very good’ condition.

Darhon · 28/10/2023 19:39

I’ve sold a bit. Only sold stuff in ok condition. Didn’t over price - it was old stuff and otherwise going to charity. Decent high street brands sell quickly. I don’t have high end stuff that I’d price more highly and lower end high street has not sold as well. I posted 3 photos, and always a picture of the label and size for anything I sold. Didn’t over do the description.

@Inthemane I am so bad at packaging but no complaints so far, I just want to keep prices low for me so not going to buy expensive packaging, I'm even abit tight on black bags haha so I just use plastic supermarket bags and tightly selotape/ductape them

susiella · 28/10/2023 20:46

Don't spray stuff with Febreze. It's vile

pinkpanther84 · 28/10/2023 21:02

I don't sell much but as a buyer I appreciate more than one photo of the item, and a photo of the size label. I find sometimes the size quoted on Vinted isn't always the actual size so I like to see if for myself (eg listed as a 12 but actually a 10)

Yes you can but make sure you use the postage options that allow you to download the barcode.

I don't have a printer so I only ship via Yodel and Evri (both have the option to download a barcode and you then scan this when you take it to your local Yodel / Evri shipping place - which is a Tesco Express for me) and you scan the barcode on the machine instore, print it off, attach to parcel and then the Tesco staff member scans it for shipping.

Works remarkably well if you don't have the means to print labels.

Main downside for me is you have no control when someone buys. So you could be taking parcels everyday? Not an issue as my store is quite close by but it can be quite demotivating to trot back to Tesco in the rain for a £1 parcel.

I try to sell bundles and higher value to make it more worthwhile.

I've made a few hundred quid but still spent much more than I've made 😠

Edited

You have up to a week to post so there's no need to go every day - I tend to go twice a week so nobody's waiting more than a few days.

Cannas · 28/10/2023 21:47

I buy and sell.
As a buyer the worst thing is clothing that smells of perfume. Wash it first please! Also what winds me up is the seller waiting until the last minute to post.
I won't buy unless there are decent photos and I appreciate some effort in the description.
I never buy new with tags as I don't want to support shoplifting. Everyone says they just forgot to return but I don't believe it. Some sellers have dozens of brand new items. I just think it's dodgy.

I price very low and accept reasonable offers. Board games sell well. I've sold lots of almost new nerdy games. Books sell, not for much but decent paperbacks seem to sell easily.
Sell what's in season. Summer dresses don't sell in November.
I only allow Evri because it's too inconvenient for me to go anywhere else.
If it doesn’t sell in a month it goes to charity shop.

jollygreenpea · 28/10/2023 22:24

This is very useful as I have been thinking of selling some stuff that I don't want. Thanks for all the tips.

Feisty1youare · 28/10/2023 22:30

I've found that Sunday evenings are the best time to list items

As a buyer it is helpful to see more than one photo , one of the item and one of the label so you can see the size and shop it came from. I think it also helps visually clothes are ironed and presented well on a clear background. It's a saturated market so these little things can make a difference

As a seller , I would suggest adding around 10% above the price you are willing to accept as the majority of people will send you a lower offer. You will get a lot of very cheeky offers, buyers can go straight in and ask for 40% off! My advise is to be patient and dont accept these if you have only just listed an item .As long as you haven't overpriced it someone else will buy at the price or nearer to the price.

I don't use Vinted to make money but more of a swap shop. I love it, give it a go and good luck !

Feisty1youare · 28/10/2023 22:39

Oh and be prepared that you could list a perfectly good item for a bargain price of £2 and you will still get people offering you £1...

FreebieHound · 10/11/2023 22:41

Placemarking as I'm going to set up Vinted this weekend! Do I need a referral code? TIA x

wellthisisakward · 10/11/2023 22:54

Big tip!!

Change the setting so you only allow say "in post" or Evri or whatever is closer to you else you'll spend more time driving round delivering than you do making money.

For me in post is closer and easier, no shops to go into it's at my local supermarket and open 24/7

Al991 · 10/11/2023 22:56

Try to make the photos look as good as possible. I had a bag listed for 3 weeks on there and it didn’t sell. I took some new nicer photos and it sold within hours.

Just used 2 x of the grey bags and use the sticker tape around a shoe box. 2 x a4 size bags cover a shoe box

CharlotteBog · 10/11/2023 22:59

I am new to selling. It's so easy.
I've set aside Vinted time at the weekend when it's good light for taking photos.
I take a photo of the front, the back and the label.
I've sold my teenage son's fashion items and vinted suggests how much similar items have sold for. That was really helpful.

Great tip on setting delivery, thank you. Yodel is a pain for me.

Made £38 so far.

Toddler101 · 11/11/2023 06:07

I've made £120 this month so far, mostly kids baby stuff but some handbags and other bits.
Price appropriately.
Be open to offers.
Offer special lower price to anyone who has favourited your items after 1 week if it hasn't sold.
Lower your price after 2 weeks.
Charity shop after a month.
Communicate well with buyers.
Don't cancel orders if you can help it - you get automatic negative feedback.
Post promptly.
Use hashtags and more photos than necessary on a clear surface.
If selling clothes - don't model them for photos!!

39and · 12/11/2023 14:14

I love buying and selling. I don't take the best photos but I'm not bothered about selling for high prices. I sold a leather jacket earlier today for £10. Total steal but I'd only paid £20 for it so I didn't mind. People offering £6/£7 for it though and try on photos! Someone bought it for £10 anyway without all that. Can't be bothered with that kind of effort for low cost items.

HelterSkelter224 · 12/11/2023 14:26

You just need to be mindful of your pricing as the buyer has an additional £3-4 on top with postage / fees etc. so if you're thinking of selling something for £7 the buyer is thinking "would I spend a tenner on this?" I sell all my toddler's clothes on it, it's a wee bit of a faff but it means I can go on and buy her new clothes / toys with the money. I think I've made about £100 so far but I'm only using it sporadically. Definitely worth doing if you have the time! I keep all the clothes to go in a storage box with packaging bags beside it and try and post as soon as possible to keep my ratings up. Thinking of selling books next. Good luck!
