All inclusive bad behaviour?

On my first ever AI holiday and apart from a very drunk, noisy group at 2am on the first night it's all very civilised. Are people normally good at self regulating or is this unusual? I was half expecting guests staggering under the weight of triple rum and cokes at 10am, instead people are hammering the iced coffees and patisserie selection...

Hugely depends on what country you're in.

CherryCokeFanatic · 28/10/2023 16:12

Usually fine. Often the bars close at a certain time anyway.

disappearingfish · 28/10/2023 16:19

We're in Greece. It's a very mixed set of guests, different nationalities, families and couples mostly. Plenty making it up in time for the sunrise yoga sessions and a handful doing laps in the pool at 8am.

Bars open until 1am.

We’ve been to a few nice AI resorts in Turkey and never had any problems with drunken yobbish behaviour. It was mostly families tbh.

Rubytoos · 28/10/2023 16:45

I think it depends what sort of resort you’re at, the star rating and the type of clientele it attracts. I was at a 5* AI in Egypt in March, and the average customer was 55+ and in bed by 10.30.
not sure it would be the same experience at a 3* in Magaluf.

Burnoutwhat · 28/10/2023 16:48

Are you normally so judgemental? I've never been AI but it sounds like you were expecting it to be full of pissed commoners.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 28/10/2023 16:50

Never seen any crap behaviour and we only go A.I.
Egypt,Greece and Turkey over the last few years.
People will have a beet in the day but no shots or anything crazy ime

PrincessHoneysuckle · 28/10/2023 16:50

beer

SleepingStandingUp · 28/10/2023 16:54

Are you disappointed that you can't get off your face before lunch without standing out, or stuff your face at every meal? If not, why are you surprised other people hold themselves to a similar standard?

Invisimamma · 28/10/2023 16:56

It really depends on the resort, we have never had any issues as usually pick quieter places rather than party-central. But sometimes there will be the odd louder group. Never experienced people drinking alcohol at 10am though.

On our most recent AI holiday the problem was mostly with children: spitting in the pool, using hands in the buffet food, licking the ice cream scoop and putting it back in the freezer for others to use, drying swim nappies in the sun and reusing them, proper vile behaviour. But not drunk and disorderly.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 28/10/2023 16:56

We did two, many years ago. One in October which was great, so we booked a second, the following July, which was ruined by a couple of other people letting their kids bully others (hitting and dive bombing) and run riot unsupervised. I remember a couple of evenings on that second trip where people were complaining about them. And fair enough.

tinkerbellvspredator · 28/10/2023 17:03

We went on first AI last year. Typical brits family type holiday. Didn't notice much day drinking (a few beers round the pool) and I'd say the usual drinking during entertainment in the evening as people would do on holiday out at bars. Me and DH don't drink anyway, but didn't notice anyone really drunk.

DH hammered the Nutella topped pancakes though.

wineandmaltesershappyme · 28/10/2023 17:05

Never had drunken unsociable behaviour at the AI resorts we’ve been to.

Scottishlanza · 28/10/2023 17:18

I think the excess drinking used to be worse when all inclusive first became a thing with the novelty value. I can remember 30 years ago picking up at an all inclusive hotel about lunch time on the way back to the airport, everyone was sozzled! The first time we went on one there were a few greedy people trying to get their monies worth but more recently everyone is pacing themselves and drinking steadily. We tend to drink too much on day one (not outrageously tho) get a hangover and vow to take it steady for the rest of the week lol.

Cheesecakefiend · 28/10/2023 17:22

In my experience the destination determines the behaviour , generally. (obviously not always). We avoid hotels with mostly British holiday makers because of the binge drinking. I’ll be flamed for this but anything less than 4 star is a no go too (in terms of alcohol induced bad behaviour)

HMW1906 · 28/10/2023 17:26

We usually go 4+/5 star but never had any problems with uncivilised behaviour/drunks.

MrsTerryPratchett · 28/10/2023 17:34

Depends what people are there for. I don't usually go to AI but did to the Caribbean recently. Ours was boring but walk down the beach to the next one, it was a different story.

Horses for course, innit.

NashvilleQueen · 28/10/2023 17:36

Well it's not that cheap to go AI really so it's always been quite civilised in my experience.

BoothsChristmasBook · 28/10/2023 17:38

Club Mac - rough as fuck

Ikos - not so much

Totaly · 28/10/2023 17:40

Never seen drunken behaviour. We went AI based on kids wanting pop and ice cream and it saved a fortune. Couldn’t get drunk as we had children asleep in bed.

Recently went to Spain and the typical child drive bombing the pool every two min as we tried to do the Aqua fit - think he was starved of attention as his mother didn’t give a shit - and before you jump on, no father was to be seen.

BitofaStramash · 28/10/2023 17:46

I've never had any problems on AI

WithIcePlease · 28/10/2023 17:46

I've been to several AI's in Balearics and Canaries, inc mid-range price and never seen folk insensible from alcohol.

There were many drunk Russians in Sharm when I used to go there.

SpoonGently · 28/10/2023 17:54

We’ve done two AIs
The first one was a luxury hotel, we probably had more sundowners than we needed but didn’t notice any proper drunken behaviour.
The second was definitely not luxurious, there was a swim up bar with folk downing pints and pints and very few trips to the loo. Ugh.

disappearingfish · 28/10/2023 20:19

NashvilleQueen · 28/10/2023 17:36

Well it's not that cheap to go AI really so it's always been quite civilised in my experience.

I thought I got a pretty cheap deal - £1250 for 2 for a week's five star AI, flights included. Although it's not what a lot of people would classify as five star.

I think it's because it's families and couples that it's chilled, just one group so far that were apparently notorious for the week they were here (they left yesterday). It's actually really lovely seeing families relaxed and enjoying each other's company.

I’m at an all inclusive right now and apart from some noise when people come in at night there’s been no bad behaviour at all. In fact sitting in the pool bar having a beer while reading in the afternoon, I was amazed at how quiet it was and how few people were drinking. A lot of guests have a beer by the pool before lunch or a wine with their midday meal but then it’s very restrained until dinner time. Even then there’s never a queue for the bar. I’ve never seen people piling up food on their plates, touching stuff at the buffet or behaving in any way other than politely. Everyone is nice to the staff and says thank you every time they clear a plate etc. in fact, in the words of Albert and the Lion - “nothing to laugh at at all!”
