Easter in New York hotel

I know this has been done before but after reading lots of old threads I am more confused that ever and would love some advice from more seasoned travellers. Dh and I are both 60 new year and want to go to New york for 6 days during the Easter holidays. We have never been before and probably won't go again so would like to be in a good location for sight seeing that isn't crazy expensive. We want to see all the usual touristy stuff and also wander around a bit just enjoying the atmosphere. Neither of us are especially into shopping or shows but wouldn't rule either out, we do like musems and galleries, but mostly we would like to see all the major sights, statue of liberty, 911 site, empire state building all the usual suspects. We don't have mobility issues as such but neither of us is particularly fit so moseying around is fine but dont want to walk for miles at a stretch. We looked at the library hotel as its been recommended on here a lot but price wise it is a bit of a stretch at nearly 3k euro for 6 nights for a decent sized room. Any recommendations for a safe, central area with good transport links that won't break the bank? Tia

I meant to say not necessarily a particular hotel but if anyone could give me a good area to focus on that would be very helpful.

I’m a big fan of Williamsburg. Little bit cheaper than Manhattan, and loads of interesting little neighbourhoods with great restaurants and cafes, plus an easy walk across the bridge into Lower East Side, Chinatown, Greenwich Village etc. and down river to Dumbo. If you’re not very keen on walking then there’s easy access for the subway - but honestly, walking is one of the best things about NYC, you really see the city and all its little bits of character and culture on foot in a different way than if you’re underground or only stay in the most touristy areas and don’t wander far.

We stayed here and felt it was reasonably priced and well located:

We thought the hop on hop off tour bus was a great way to get around.

Particularly enjoyed the Museum of the city of New York (and it's fabulous air conditioning on a hot summer's day!).

Thanks for replies so far. We like walking around just don't want to do long walks several times a day iykwim. I have a knee issue which plays but at times so while I might be fine I want to be near things just in case.

I stayed in the new Virgin hotel shortly after it opened in April.

Great location. Nice hotel. Would recommend.

I lived and worked in NY and have visited since.
The Kixby Hotel is a perfect location for you. Very central to the main tourist attractions and a nice classy hotel with really comfy beds and a rooftop bar with amazing views of The Empire State.
I would avoid Times Square area personally, it's a bit tacky and very overly commercialised. Hop on hop off buses are fabulous and ideal if as you say, you don't like lots of walking.
NY can be as relaxed or chill as you like.
A leisurely stroll over the bridge to Brooklyn is always nice weather permitting, and great views of Manhattan from Brooklyn Bridge Pk.
The Staten Island ferry is free and runs very regularly, every 15 mins- a great way to get pics of The Statue of Liberty and the skyline.

We stayed here but nearly 10 years ago so not sure what it's like now. But location was great if you're trying to see a lot as next to Empire State Building - view from the rooftop bar on the first night was 😲. Subway station nearby plus plenty of places to eat. High Line walkable from there. So this area would be good if trying to pinpoint a hotel. Avoid Times Square.
