Does anyone know anything about vintage (70’s) furniture?

We are clearing our grandparents house and have this 7 seater modular sofas (Fraylings) from the 70’s. It’s in decent condition for its age, would anyone know how much to ask for it? What would it be worth? There’s so few of them online that it’s difficult to know how much to expect for them.

only showing 4, there are another 3 modules around the room…plus a matching coffee table.

Aw the lamp is again from the 70’s. It’s a pole type fixed at the ceiling and the floor. Brought over very carefully from a holiday to Canada. That’s staying in the family

Does it have metal clips to attach the side pieces together? My parents had one when I was young
Fraylings were based near my parents, think they got a friends and family discount

Standardspots · 27/10/2023 21:26

Yes, there are metal clips that you can pull out or add to hold them together

Thought so. I remember changing the furniture pieces around every so often
We never had the table

Sofa furniture of that age is very unlikely to contain fire-retardant foam. I refurbished some sofa-beds from that era, which included replacing the foam interior to meet modern safety requirements. If you keep them, making inquiries with the home insurance company. Some policies would render a claim null and void (in the event of a fire) if it was later discovered you had very old furnishings in place, since many items could be a fire accelerant from that era. It is a bit of a shame really as older furniture was built to last.

Wow, I love the whole room, seriously! Your grandparents had good taste.
They would make great cinema room sofas.

Standardspots · 27/10/2023 21:31

Thanks so much. It’s not changed since we were children, in fact since the house was built in 1970. So many memories there 😢

In my humble opinion, anything that was created/ happened in the 70's should stay there. Especially flares.
Although that sofa looks awesome.
(I grew up in the 70's)

I love the sofa and the whole room! No idea how much you'd get for it but your grandparents had great taste.

funbags3 · 27/10/2023 21:42

Someone will bite your hand off for those!

Time40 · 27/10/2023 21:43

That sofa has style! I hope you get a good price for it, OP - that sort of thing is really starting to be appreciated now. Your grandparents' house looks fab, like a wonderful time capsule. I'm glad you're keeping the lovely lamp.

TheInfusionist · 27/10/2023 21:45

I'll buy it all - DM me

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 27/10/2023 21:51

Maybe contact www.theoldcinema.co.uk , they can probably give good advice and may even buy it off of you or sell it on your behalf.

We had those sofas but dark brown!!

Jmb82 · 19/11/2023 15:20

I've stumbled across this post while trying to get some advice on my own one of these! I had inherited a 7 piece as a corner suite but Its been well loved by the bouncy children 🙈 so it's not in as good condition as your grandparents. We have 2 arms and 5 of the brackets so it makes a 4 seater maximum but we loved being able to also make it 3 +1 or 2+2 or 2+1+1 and change the look of the room when we wanted a change. We're getting a new sofa now so was looking to see if, how or who to sell to if we can
