Council tried to call and I have no idea why!

Name Change as I'm regular poster and don't really want silly posts like this backtracked to my usual tag.
I'll start off by saying I'm a natural worrier and overthinker and suffer from terrible anxiety.
I missed a call from the local council. Its from a number you'd call to enquire about recycling and waste, make payments, book a slot at the local recycling centre, book birth/wedding registration appointments, complaints etc.
I have said number saved on my phone as I've called them numerous times last year regarding issues with our waste/recycling not being emptied, so I know it was definitely them. They have never attempted to contact me on this number before and I haven't called them since last year. They did not bother to leave a voicemail and not been contacted via post or email either.
I returned their call 10 minutes after the missed call and the woman I spoke to refused to take any of my details as she had no way of knowing who attempted to call me and point blank refused to look into it or pass on a message. She simply said "they'll call back if it's important" and terminated the call.
I am racking my brains trying to think of a reason why the council would need to contact me and just coming up with all kind of scenarios. I'm conscious that it's also Friday so might not get any answers until next week!
Has anyone else been contacted by the local council and it been nothing to worry about?

I honestly can't think of a worrying reason why they'd call you?

What are the scenarios you're coming up with that have got you anxious?

UsernameTaken76 · 27/10/2023 13:24

I had this recently they ran a customer satisfaction survey about waste collections and our local rubbish tip.

Janieforever · 27/10/2023 13:26

I think your anxiety has taken over, I can’t see any reason why this would be remotely concerning, I understand why the lady didn’t engage further. It’s prob a customer satisfaction thing.

StillWantingADog · 27/10/2023 13:29

I had a random call from the council recently it turns out they were asking if I could possibly consider taking in a Ukrainian refugee as they had people who had been with other families over a year. I’d sort of expressed an interest once, but never went through with it.
I politely declined and they were very nice about it.

All sorts. Owe them money that I was unaware I owe them, neighbour complaing about me even though I know I haven't done anything to complain about but I'm still worried it could be this. It's just a pain that I can't find out what on earth they're calling me about.

Could be that they called you by mistake? I would try not to worry about it.

Sexlivesofthepotatomen · 27/10/2023 14:10

Might just be a follow up call regarding the issues you've had in the pa

It’s very unlikely they would call you about something like this, they would send a letter so that there was a record of it.

But I too am a natural worrier and would be dithering all over the place if it was me!

Almondmum · 27/10/2023 14:44

No letters or messages or follow up phone calls or note on your file when you rung back must mean it's something completely unimportant.

If it was something serious like a complaint or money owed they'd make sure they got in touch with you. When I accidentally missed a payment on council tax once we had a letter. And even then it wasn't serious, it was just a pain as we had to rearrange our standing order.

I'm sure it's absolutely fine.

mynameiscalypso · 27/10/2023 14:46

It's also possible that the number was spoofed and it was just a scammer calling you.

These would be dealt with in writing.
Anything important will be dealt with in writing.

Try to accept you're worrying because you worry. Do whatever it is that helps you feel a bit safer. If a letter comes, you will deal with it then.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 28/10/2023 09:00

Probably a customer service follow up call.

MargotMoon · 28/10/2023 09:19

I got a missed call from the generic council number yesterday as well. I get them from time to time.

It could be literally anything related to the local authority, including DD's school, as they all have the same incoming number - but if they don't call back and don't leave a message I assume it's not important or they will send a letter.

Once it was the local leisure centre about renewing my gym membership 🤷🏻‍♀️

They wouldn't call you for either of these, they would write to you.

CompaniesHouse · 28/10/2023 09:22

I have had this for:

  • random “customer satisfaction” type call
  • non-random “customer satisfaction” type call in relation to something I had previously contacted the council about
  • checking household registration for things e.g voting, garden waste subscriptions, etc.

I have never been called about anything important. Anything important comes via post.

BetiYeti · 28/10/2023 09:23

Won’t be anything drastic. More likely a customer survey type thing. They might be doing spot checks on a customer service issue, such as checking whether your bins are being emptied regularly or whether you’re receiving their communications. If it was really important, they would write.

WandaWonder · 28/10/2023 09:25

There is no need to be dramatic about it, could be a survey or a wrong number if it was that important they will contact you again

Boredof2020 · 28/10/2023 09:42

My council rang me last week. Asking who lived in my house as I had forgotten to return the form for voting
