How can I remove this residue from the outside of my shower? I'm finding it tricky getting in between the plastic and the metal parts.

Shower cleaning tips please

Those clear rubber bits just pull out of the bottom rail. I've got the same shower as you I think. I use an old toothbrush and bleach for those bits. Leave it to soak for a while.

swedishgirl · 24/10/2023 23:03

Thank you, I'll give these tips and products a try.

I've tried mold remover (left to soak for 5 mins) and it make little difference. But I used a cloth, so will try toothbrush or those brushes you linked @AnotherDayAnotherDream

Oh I'm disappointed, I was hoping your op was for a glass shower screen cleaning hack.
Saw one on tiktok, been dying to share it.
I'm going to anyway.
Hot damp cloth, washing up liquid, rub over the glass and keep rubbing until it feels smooth, soap scum gone, then dry with a microfiber cloth, don't rinse with water, just dry it, really works.
Hate to highjack your thread but no one irl is interested in my tiktok hack 😁

Limescale remover helps.

Sunshineandrainbow · 24/10/2023 23:35

I would use a cocktail stick to pull the grime out

Ilovecleaning · 25/10/2023 00:11

Try Viakal. You might need to do it a few times.

Ugzbugz · 25/10/2023 00:23

Seen some tiktok things, washing up liqued and white vinegar and old electric toothbrush?

jlpth · 25/10/2023 00:49

I would get some sturdy kitchen roll and soak it in limescale remover and put it on the dirty bits. I would roll up the kitchen roll so that it wasn’t just one layer- like a very thin sausage. Then after that had been on for 20 mins or whatever, I would attack it with a toothbrush and bamboo skewer - and more limescale remover.

kitchenhelprequired · 25/10/2023 01:01

Viakal or the Lidl version but not the spray type. It's thicker and you can pour on in the right place. Leave for a few hours and then use a toothbrush or a thin ish cloth over a knife to get into all the nooks and crannies. If the Viakal dries add more Or spray with a bit of water before scrubbing.

DeepFriedBananas · 25/10/2023 03:33

@itsgoingtobeabumpyride I just use a nylon scourer and a squirt of cream cleanser. A quick once over with the scourer, quick rinse and jobs a good un.
Usually done while I'm in the shower.

Op, try a toothbrush and cream cleanser first to get rid of the worst of it, then after putting a layer of kitchen or toilet roll on the floor directly in front to protect it, spray the area with oven cleaner then cover with cling film. Leave overnight, then wipe away.
Wear gloves though.
If the seal does come off as someone suggested, then remove the seal and clean with a toothbrush and cream cleanser.

If it's like my shower and you're
talking about getting between the white plastic and the metal then you can use a flexible wallpaper scraper. Use this to push the grime down and it comes out into the shower tray and can be washed away.

@itsgoingtobeabumpyride I love your tiktoktip. I usually use cillit bang, wash off then use a squeegee which works well but I hate the squeaky squeegee. I'm trying your idea next time.

Thearmchairbunch · 25/10/2023 07:25

i have this exact same problem with a near identical shower.
I’ve tried different sprays, soaked kitchen towel etc.
the problem is the bit between the glass and the metal it’s like a solid bit of plastic that’s the seal and while there’s enough room for the mould to build up I can’t get anything fine enough down.
lve even tried cutting up a can of juice and sliding the thin metal down but even that won’t fit.

Mumaway · 25/10/2023 07:27

Toothbrush and CIF, regularly

Too much work... A bit of Harpic Black, rub it over, leave for a few minutes, jobs a good'n.

dayswithaY · 25/10/2023 07:43

Distilled white vinegar diluted with water. Smells a bit like a chip shop but it soon fades away.

EverythingLouderThanEverythingElse · 25/10/2023 07:51

I bought a set of tools on Amazon for about £5, really fine metal picks. They're actually sold as tooth-cleaning for scraping off plaque so the same principle, you just need a lot of patience and be careful not to scratch.

I once used Cillit Bang on a client's shower and it turned the seal bright orange. Tweeted the company and they were not interested . Haven't used the evil stuff since.

@itsgoingtobeabumpyride just tried this on shower glass with loads of soap buildup (usually a job for Viakil) … the works a treat and gets a great shine but needs elbow grease … and going back to polish a few times where I’d left smears. Nice one!

WhiskersPete · 25/10/2023 10:14

Once you clean it seal the gap with white mould resistant silicone then it won't build up in there again.

Rub the glass with damp newspaper after cleaning, then dry newspaper to finish. Works a treat! Also, if you have limescale marks at the bottom of the glass shower screen, rub gently with a Brillo pad, doesn't scratch and takes it off.

Tighginn · 25/10/2023 10:39

Just get a handy man to reseal it, then bleach and kitchen roll to stay on top of it.
