Snacks for camp for 9yo

DD off on camp tomorrow with Brownies until Saturday (half term here).
I’m allowed to send her with a lunchbox sized tub with “tuck” items in.

Can be anything as long as theres no nuts or seeds (include pumpkin, seasame (so no hummus), peanuts and pine nuts), but shouldn’t all be sweets/crisps.

Bananas, Apples, Oranges, Grapes, Cucumber Sticks and Carrot Sticks are provided for every girl to eat at snack time so fruit and vegetables are not needed. Cereals, porridge and toast are also included so I don’t need to send those either.

I’m heading to b+m shortly, what would you include?

DD is allergic to kiwi and strawberries but anything else goes.

Camp is about treats. Also the main camp diet sounds very healthy so some treats should be allowed. When nt ds was at cub camp ww gave money for the Provvy and I'm sure all the kids spent on sweets and cans.

How about:

Smoothies
Raisins
Yogurt covered raisins
Mini flapjacks
Fruit not provided that she specifically likes
Sf jelly
Chocolate

Bag of crisps
Mini cheddars/cheese biscuits/crackers
Mini bread sticks
Babybel

A few sweets

A, drink your daughter especially enjoys .

With all the food provided I'd only pack 5/6 extra sbscks.

I'd give her a couple of cartons of juice she likes just incase she fancies something else a bag of sweets chewits or whatever she likes and she can share some savoury things as pp have suggested

Crisps, sweets, chocolate - it's tuck not healthy!

DD goes to a residential sports camp where the main meals are healthy but where she’s burning huge amounts of energy. They are not allowed sweets. I send her favourite crisps, cereal bars, those sort of biscuit oatcake crossover things, chocolate biscuit bar type things (eg penguins, club or the like), and something homemade and sturdy like brownies or flapjacks which she definitely appreciates the most!

I'd include whatever she enjoys normally.

PLEASE do not give her drinks!

They always end up all over the sleeping bags, and make the floors sticky. They will be given plenty of drinks already.

The other thing is every other child in the tent will have sweets, don't make the mistake that she needs enough to feed the entire tent.

DD takes Minstrels, Haribo and some fun size chocolate normally with her.

Crisps are provided by the leaders as part of lunch and often in the evenings.

I add often chocolate biscuit bars like Penguin and/or nut-free cereal bars/flapjacks as well.

This sounds from experience 😂

Your dd will be provided with plenty of food at the camp. The tuck box isn't really about snacks to prevent hunger, it's the stuff midnight feast are made of. Thing pringles, cookies, chocolate!

BrowniesCampHereSheComes · 24/10/2023 20:00

We went with pringles, Maryland Cookies (not the mini bags and actual tube of), malteasers, and haribo.

Thanks everyone

Sounds perfect.

The only thing I would say is to make sure that your DD knows to keep the snacks all sealed in the lunch box. Open food in a tent is a magnet for squirrels and rats. We had a squirrel gnaw a hole through a tent to get to some open flapjacks on one cub camp. Since then, we don't let the cubs bring food to camp.

Update

DD back from camp last night, tired but very happy. They didn't even eat half the stuff I sent, she had the malteasers for pudding one night and ate the Haribo on the bus home!

They were too tired for a midnight feast.
