Batshit IKEA delivery charges system

Just went to order some arts and crafts stuff for DC.

It seems that I can get a large easel (the Mala one) delivered for £4. Yet add on a tiny box of chalks for £2.50 and the delivery charge suddenly jumps to £15. 😕I tried doing a separate order for the chalks plus a few other bits and pieces (minus the easel) and that would also come to £4.

I can't think of any logical explanation for why this might be the case. I can obviously do two separate orders and pay £8 total for delivery - it just seems completely batshit as a system. Does anyone have any insight as to how the IKEA delivery algorithms actually work?

Try ordering furniture

A big no. Insane delivery charges with no consistency. I actually wondered if an algorithm does them because delivery of the same stuff varies day to day. One of my neighbours managed to get a table delivered for £30, initially got told £80.

obviously it’s their business, they can charge as they please but if one more person says “ikea” fir the wardrobe I still haven’t got… grr…

I wanted some particular new Kallax drona type boxes that could apparently only be delivered by a wagon so could only have them if I ordered furniture.

They don't stock them in store so no other way to get them!

Their furniture is £40 where I am, might be more now. But yes tried to order a few boxes for the Kallax and it was £15 delivery so didn’t bother

Always found their delivery charging odd to point we often shop else where even when we'd prefer their stuff.

As far as I know IKEA deliver big boxes of stuff like wardrobes. But dhl brought my crockery maybe that’s why.

On the whole the delivery reflects the cost of delivering an item, and is comparable to petrol plus labour costs of going to the store to collect.

Otherwise they would have to put up their prices (even more than they recently have).

I use their delivery and pay £40 per order.

My last order was £2 to the post office by DPD, is that option available?
