Any ideas of fun things to break an A1 journey, probably in Yorkshire

Just that really - I’m driving up to the Borders with my 10 yo DS later this week, and we want to break the journey somewhere near the A1, for about an hour or so. Any ideas?!

Ripon is worth a look. Cathedral, workhouse museum, and a lovely market town but if you have young children they might find it a bit dull.

If you are NT members, the playground at Fountains is really good. Possibly not worth paying the entrance for as, although I love Fountains very much, for an hour that would be a lot.
