What colour kitchen would you choose?

We are in the middle of deciding on a kitchen. It will be a budget kitchen from
B&Q. While I love colour I'm very much thinking longevity and I know trends come in and out of fashion so green, navy, pink are all too extreme for me. I'm really torn as to what to narrow down. My current horrible kitchen it a horrible cream/banana yuck colour.

Woukd you go white, grey or cream?

Personally, I find it helps to think of the whole room - eg if you had cream units, what worktop? Probably not going to go with cream or white or pale grey, so if thats the worktop you wanted, then rethink unit colour. If wood / wood effect floor, then you probably dont want wood-veneer units and/or worktop too...... obviously the paint colour, accessories etc can change so not worth getting hung up on them.

White.

Classic and beautiful.
Add pops of colour and change it up as you desire.

I’m getting mine done soon and am going for cream cupboards but I’m still dithering about the handles. I am going for a black sink so thought I’d get black handles too, but there is such a lot of choice. What is likely to date (or not date) as far as handles are concerned? It’s not something I’ve given a lot of thought to until now, and it’s bewildering.

Dislike grey and think its on its way out but have seen some pale blueish grey kitchens which look lovely when tiling / walls are white.

Out of white and cream not much in it, mild preference for cream. If you go for painted can always change colour later.

I nearly lost my head trying to decide what colour also. Did not want grey. In the end got a lovely neutral called Cashmere it's a pale mushroom colour. Dark worktops and plain white tiles. Added colour with a mad blind, and bits and bibs here and there. I like it but I would wouldn't I ??

Tarmaced · 24/10/2023 09:40

I like Cashmere, nice & neutral. 👍

My kitchen is pale pink and it looks great. It's a cold room and can be dark so the colour is perfect. I have no idea if pink is in or out as I don't pay attention to that kind of frippery. Just get some test pots in colours you like and narrow it down that way. If you like grey, go for grey. Who cares if random strangers think it's unfashionable.

Our kitchen is matte ivory shaker style with matte silver handles. We wanted something timeless and that was the best the new build company offered. We brought colour in through the tiles, crockery and towels etc.

I've just had a cream kitchen from b and q fitted (GoodHome Stevia Gloss cream slab). Get b and q to try different colour options (including Wall colours). I went in thinking matt white units, green tiles, white walls. Came away with gloss, cream units, cream tiles and green walls. It will also be easy to change colour schemes for future buyers.

My kitchen is a pale blue with pale grey textured tiles. It's tiny so it had to be something light. I wasn't keen when we first looked and it was DH's choice (he does the cooking so I figured it was only fair for him to choose!) but now I love it.

ChevyCamaro · 24/10/2023 11:04

Doesn't it kind of depend on the type of house? If I had a 70s house I would go for orange. In a 30s house I would have pale green or blue cabinets. In a country kitchen would be oak worktops and cream cabinets with a stone flagged floor. In a city loft I would go for industrial stainless steel. I always think it's weird when people put the same kitchen no matter what era the house 😎( I have no idea why the shades emoji I can't get rid of it!!).

Tarmaced · 24/10/2023 11:57

Within reason, yes I think the age/style of the house needs to be considered but there's no way I'd be putting an orange kitchen in a 70s house! 😆

I wouldn't put a farmhouse style kitchen in a suburban house but I wouldn't want something dated either.

Tarmaced · 24/10/2023 11:58

On DIY kitchen's FB page almost every kitchen is Shaker style.
I like Shaker but am damned if I'm spending my time cleaning the dust/grease trap grooves!

Cream with sage green or cornflower blue walls

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 24/10/2023 12:46

Pale cream, and pref. a plain Shaker style. It won’t date as anything at all ‘fashionable’ will.

FrogFairy · 24/10/2023 13:49

White never dates, but personally I love mussel.
