There's a woman who I've followed for years on YouTube and Instagram
She has a fashion brand
She's posting about her new items and they are up for sale on her website
They are all from Ali express
£7 and £12 items and she's claiming they are her designs and selling for £35 plus
Is this legal ?
I don't want to name names as I don't think I'm allowed but it's shocked me

She's part of the Channel mum brigade
Who claim to be honest ....

Is it the keyring one?
What these do is they can say it's their "design" after putting the bits together apparently.

She is selling clothes and jewellery
I actually liked her but this just seems so dishonest and money grabbing

Oh forgot to say she recent posted she went to Paris for inspiration for her latest collection 😂🤣

There's so many Instagram baby 'boutiques' where they are reselling aliexpress baby clothes. The likes of Stacey Solomon fall for it (may be they are contacted and pitched to), and put on their stories saying things like 'My kid loved this, I love supporting small shops'...

The same outfit is much cheaper obvs on Aliexpress.

Also, on Etsy- a lot of resellers pretending the items are their designs/ handmade by them; they add a label and resell.

So very much an everyday happening at the moment. Not sure it's actually illegal.
Customers need to be savvier, for sure.
Id call her out on social media- post her 'design' + Ali express link side to side.

Loads of people do this on social media. Look at the awful Ingham family who’s dad has a shopping selling stuff from temu at hugely inflated prices and is trying to scam people into some kind of pyramid scheme.

Pandora55 · 23/10/2023 11:43

I noticed Katie price is doing the exact same thing. 5 quid pjs from shein. Selling them at £35 on her tik tok.

Can't believe people are so daft. I also wonder if it's legal

And just to add I like Stacey Solomon so not personal criticism, but a real example of outfits I cross referenced.
I'm sure she was acting in good faith.

@Thesearmsofmine I'm sure Sarah from the Ingham family gets her baby blankets off shein too

pinksinks · 23/10/2023 11:50

Or ali express

Yes I imagine so. I find it infuriating with them in particular as their ‘fans’ often seem to be quite vulnerable people with little money.

BarborousBarbra · 23/10/2023 12:17

I mean, it's perfectly legal to resell stuff at a higher price, but saying they're your own designs almost certainly falls under the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations because it's blatantly false advertising. It's everywhere though!

LakeTiticaca · 23/10/2023 12:31

I think you can be sued if big companies get wind that you are claiming their designs as your own. (Or at least be given a warning to stop)
Some of these big brands are pretty ruthless. Didn't some guy once get sued by Mc Donald's, as his name was actually Ronald MacDonald? 🤣
Or did I make that up? 😉😉
