Out today at a sports event and a bloody massive dog bowled me over. Took me right off my feet and I hit my head really hard.
In fairness the guy was very apologetic but ouch!!

Just want a moan.

My old dog tripped me up as I'd just made some toast. I head butted the edge of the kitchen worktop, broke my nose, passed out and came too on the floor, face covered in blood. The first thing I saw was was my sheepish dog with crumbs on his whiskers. Yes, the sod had taken the opportunity to snaffle my toast!

NeunundneunzigHorseBallonz · 23/10/2023 08:01

I have a 60kg Malamute/Newfoundland mix that is bloody terrified of everything. Last night there was one gentle rumble of thunder off in the distance. She opened our bedroom door and launched herself onto the bed landing heavily on both of my knees and my stomach. Really violent way to be woken! She snores and hogs the pillow. To top it off, she’s shedding her Winter coat like crazy. I woke up later with fur stuck to my lip balm. 🤢😵‍💫🤢 Gotta love a giant hairy idiot. (The dog, not DH… He didn’t wake up at all.)

Spudlet · 23/10/2023 08:03

My lab pulled me over flat on my face a few weeks ago. In fairness we were doing canicross so it is his job to pull, mine to keep up. Unfortunately a root intervened and I went fully airborne and landed flat on my front! And then he trod all over me in a concerned manner 🙄 I had some mighty fine bruises on both knees, both elbows and my face 🤕

@kerstina A sideways impact to the knee can cause ACL damage - it might be worth going back to your GP or going to a private physio and being looked at again. An ultrasound or similar wouldn’t be a bad idea. If the GP physio just examined you without imaging something may well have been missed, or concealed by the initial inflammation from the impact.

@Sexnotgender Concussion can take up to three weeks to appear so do keep an eye out for symptoms for the next few weeks (I’m sure you will be fine but better safe than sorry).

HerMammy · 23/10/2023 08:04

@garlictwist
The dog could be a rescue who's been mistreated by a woman, he seems responsible in muzzle
training. Should we just kill any dog with a behaviour issue? honestly

Dymaxion · 23/10/2023 08:11

Love a Spinone. I once got pushed into the local river by an Otterhound carrying a massive stick, he spun round with it in his mouth and sent me flying into the water, my own dog jumped in after me to help and sent me flying again !

DeepFriedBananas · 23/10/2023 08:40

One of my large dogs ran into my DH from behind and took him out spectacularly.
I ended up on the floor wheezing with laughter.
I was filming it at the time too and it still has me laughing when I watch it.
Hope you're ok op.

bozzabollix · 23/10/2023 08:45

I used to go running with my dogs, one enjoyed it, the other wasn’t as keen. So she cut across me last min and I went flying. Did the job, I had to hobble home with her victorious.

She was a big black lab who was pretty much immovable, no contest really. She didn’t fall at all.

octaurpus · 23/10/2023 08:47

My DM was bowled over by an off lead pit bull cross a couple of weeks ago, and has since had to have surgery to insert a plate/screw in her arm. She's 84, and the fall broke her arm in two places. She's been left completely traumatised, and isn't eating properly. The owner (and his dog) left the scene in a hurry, so we're very concerned it's going to happen to someone else.

Primproperpenny · 23/10/2023 08:52

You should have got the owner’s details. He shouldn’t be out and about with a a dog he can’t control.

Rosiesmydog · 23/10/2023 09:22

Since having two young retrievers (3 and 20 months) , I think I’ve fallen over/been bowled over/tripped over them/pushed down by them jumping up (not now as they’ve learned not to) sooo many times. I’ve also got a rotator cuff injury caused by one of them lunging at a cat.

yes, I still love them but looking forward to them calming down!

defaultresponsibleadult · 23/10/2023 09:30

A friend of the family has just been released from hospital. He was running and playing on the beach with his three dogs. Two were ahead and one was behind. He turned slightly to see where third was and at that moment dog number two weaved across into his path and they collided going down at speed. Traumatic dislocation of his hip and a broken hand with a side order of sand in every conceivable single nook and crevice.

Dog was entirely unharmed. It was in a remote and quiet location so locals had to arrange a sort of rescue brigade to get him to the town where the ambulance service picked him up and the postie kept the dogs until they could be picked up.

TenderDandelions · 23/10/2023 09:40

I got knocked over by a Jack Russell once... that was embarrassing! Tiny little thing it was. I just stood and watched it running towards me, thinking "it's best I just stand still, he'll figure out the best way round me" then bam!

My DH nearly broke his ankle by my DM's dog (giant male labrador) running head first in to his ankle. The bruising was pretty spectacular for just such an innocuous knock.

alloalloallo · 23/10/2023 10:06

My dog took me out with a massive stick (branch) a few weeks ago. Caught me on the back of the knees and I hit the very muddy deck. She then got all concerned and came running back and proceeded to tread all over me - still carrying the bloody branch.

She also nearly knocked me in to a pond when running full pelt to jump into said pond and crashing into me - I managed to save myself before I ended up in the pond, but did end up very muddy and a very undignified scramble back up the bank.

My old dog pulled me into the sea a few years ago - he was on a long lead and took off into the sea after a stone that one of my kids had thrown in. I hadn’t seen them throw it so wasn’t expecting it at all and he pulled me clean over, face first into the very cold sea.

Walking DDog at the local lakes a few weeks ago. As I’m bending down to scoop up his poop, huge XL bully comes out of nowhere to play, and knocks me face first into the warm pile (I use a walking stick, so not the best balance to start with).

But not just my dog’s poo. Oh no! Some dirty bastard hadn’t cleaned up after their dog, so landed in that too.

I didn’t have ‘Cover hair & self in dog poop’ on my 2023 Disaster Bingo card lol.

Oh no!!!! That’s actually revolting 🤢

Bloody he'll. I've always thought I'd love a dog, but maybe I'll stick with cats...

I'm very sorry to hear that. What a terrible owner. Falls and trips from boisterous big dogs or those longline leads can be so dangerous for older people especially.

As for the 16 stone dog that hates women, I think it's morally dubious to keep an animal you have no hope of controlling that's aggressive towards humans. Even with a muzzle on, it could do some serious damage at that size and strength. It certainly shouldn't be in a pub! Walked in privately hired fields maybe, not taken out in public. I think there needs to be serious controls on owning animals capable of overpowering and killing adults.

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 23/10/2023 16:44

@Sexnotgender well, it wasn’t the best Saturday afternoon I’ve ever had.

Really was a Sa-Turd-ay.

Sexnotgender · 23/10/2023 17:31

So many dog related injuries! Who knew they were so common.

That’s awful, I’m so sorry. I hope she recovers well.

Our first dog was not very big, but solid as a rock and about as bright.

Perfect recall, with the slight downside that he wouldn't actually stop when he reached you, preferring instead to barrel into the lower legs, often rendering whoever had called him flat on their face on the ground, whilst the dog sat three feet behind with a 'so yeah I came back- what's next?' look on his face.

Memba · 23/10/2023 18:21

My DH is 6'3'' and getting on for 20 stone and was recently brought down by a pointer running at full tilt. Took his legs out and floored him. Astonishing.

Thankfully DH unharmed but I can happen to anyone!

I was chatting to a chap with his labrador when walking my own.
As I stroked and spoke fondly down to his Lab, it reared it's head happily and butted me square in the nose.
Blood pouring, the poor chap was mortified.
I walked off holding tissues to my face, trilling about how fine I was really.

It took a day for the pain to go away.

I was headbutted by a Lab once too, my God the pain. And yes, i did the "it's fine!" thing too, then cried when i got home 🙄

My own dear twat of a collie pulled me clean off my feet in front of a group of men doing some restoration work on our local church, who were sat in the sun having a tea break. Ddog decided, in a split second, he was going to say hello to one so spun round, hit my leg with his arse and sent me flying. There was an awkward silence then one said "are you ok?". "I'm fine!" i said cheerfully, picking grit out of my skinned knee as i limped off, screaming internally.

And last week got walloped full in the chest by an enormous God Knows What who weighed about 50kg. She was very friendly 😂 and owner v apologetic, but the pain....

I do love dogs but they're complete pillocks at times

Sexnotgender · 23/10/2023 20:13

Dogs have surprisingly hard heads! I’ve learnt that one to my cost.

i forgot to mention that one of my dog’s favourite tricks is to run full pelt from behind me, shove her pointy nose between my knees and try and launch me over her back like a Minoan Bull Rider. She comes up to my waist and is not a delicate wee flower. I’m 5ft, so she thinks it’s a great game.
