Where am I going wrong with contact lenses?

I want to wear them but I just can't get on with them. Am I doing something wrong?

I'm wearing ones from Specsavers at the moment and I find them uncomfortable. My eyesight doesn't seem as good as I would if I had my glasses on, my eyes also feel terribly dry despite using drops and I can also "feel" the lens on my eyes if that makes sense.

Anybody else here wearing lenses often?

The worst service I've ever had for glasses and contacts was Specsavers. Honestly, I'd try somewhere else. Boots were very good when I had mine but I now favour a local independent optician.

No idea if this is relevant but I wore contacts from age 13 to 40ish but when I hit 40 my eyes suddenly became so dry and I was diagnosed with Sjögren’s syndrome and also early menopause. One of the main symptoms for menopause for many women is actually eye (and vaginal!) dryness. HRT has really helped. Just something to consider.

I have given up with specsavers. I have started going to my local independent opticians now. Specsavers were terrible. They rushed my eye test and were very impatient during it. It feels like youbare on a production line and they just want to take your money and get rid of you.

Your contact lens prescription should be slightly weaker to your glasses. Glasses need to be stronger as the lens is further away from the eye so correction kicks in later.

You also need to try different lenses until you find ones that you can tolerate.

You should be having weakly lens trials. I use specsavers and they've always been good. Ask for an appointment with the contact lens specialist as you are struggling to settle with them

Trial and error. Might take a few different types to see which you get on with.

Personally I get on with the cheapest ones Specsavers do! I used the same ones for 20 years. Several times over the years the opticians tried me on a more expensive brand but I could feel them in my eye and they moved too much.

Eye drops help too.

I find Asda the best Tbh. Daily lens are thinner and I use the acuvue moist. For insertion Eye drops on finger, eye drop on contact lens. Insert in eye.

Asda optician tells me I dont fully close my eye when I blink .. bottom lid has a dip, so I get dry eyes and don’t use contacts other than going out.

I have astigmatism and struggle too! My eyes feel "tired" and I have to really concentrate. I wear some expensive ones from specsavers too, I think they were about £65!

I do find the more often I wear the better it gets. I

I have astigmatism. The only lenses that work for me are Biofinity monthlies. I have multi-focals so correction isn't perfect and I need readers for up close. Wear 8-10 hours max and peroxide cleaning solution overnight + saline to rinse before putting lenses in again. If uncomfortable during wearing I pop them out and clean with saline and them a few saline eye drops when wearing. Dry eyes, ling wearing time, staring at screens will all make for uncomfortable lens wearing. I'm a bit pedantic about cleaning.
