Electric blanket ? / hot water bottle alternative

I'm just wondering are electric blankets dangerous?

I was debating getting an electric blanket for my adult daughter. She has children. I was thinking maybe she could have it on her sofa , to keep warm in the day. But im wondering how safe they are and what do they cost to run?

Also is there an alternative to a hot water bottle? Somthing that's safe for a child

My mum bought me an electric throw for the sofa a few days ago and I absolutely love it! I've had electric blankets for upstairs in the past and this absolutely wipes the floor with them

Cost wise, I could be wrong but I think it's working out at about 15p an hour to run? I'm not 100% on that though as my electric varies day to day depending if I have the washer on or not so I'll be able to tell properly in a few days what it actually costs 😅

Safety wise I assume it will have some sort of cut off if it gets too hot? If not, as it's a throw I'm pretty sure I'd be aware if it set on fire whilst I was using it 😂

For the kids, I've never used one but I've been looking at self heated blankets for my pets, maybe somthing like that would be good for a child? Their not electrical,

These are the best. I did loads of research after a very bad burn accident with a hot water bottle. Never again will I have a hot water bottle. Even some of those plug in water bottles that you don't have to fill and make claims of being safe, have liquid inside heated high enough to burn the skin in the event of a leak. These hotties are the safest product I have found.

Saw an ad on TV the other day for a heated cushion. The brand is Stoov. They are pretty expensive though. Might be worth a look.

I bought one last year and I love it.
It has a timer so it switches itself off.

It also has a range of temperatures to choose from.

I was nervous about buying one. I had one as a child and it was drummed into me that if I slept with it on then it would catch fire and I would burn to death.

However, technology has moved on and it's really safe.

With the electric blanket/throw. If something got spilt could they get an electric shock ?

I have 2 electric throws and an electric under the sheet blanket on the bed.
They are incredibly safe and cheap to run.
I have upended drinks many times on them and no issues, certainly no electric shocks! Of course if you spill a drink into the plug sockets that's a different story, but that could happen anytime not related to an electric throw.
They are also machine washable. I love mine and they have got me through many winters!

I have a dreamland heated throw from Lakeland and I love it. I got it last year and I use it to keep toastie while working from home rather then heating the whole house while I'm sitting in one room and use it for snuggles on the sofa with the kids when we watch movies. I've used it on the bed as an extra layer on really cold nights so it's much more versatile than the blankets which are just for beds.

It can even go in the washing machine and dryer!
