That time of year...

Our house was built circa 1901, and whilst it's full of character, it's old and cold making the winters a tough slog 🥶

We spend all Autumn/Winter trying to prevent mould and damp, our humidity rating is constantly at "wet", we have a large dehumidifier that we run daily and circulate throughout the house and we pop mini disposable dehumidifers in each room.

This year I thought we could try an extra safety measure by adding some house plants that are known to absorb moisture. I've bought a small snake plant, spider plant and peace lily and a large areca palm.

Firstly, I'm more black fingered then green, any advice please on looking after said plants? Also, they arrived in growers pots, can I leave them in those and just insert them into slightly larger (pretty) pots??

Secondly, does anyone have any other good tips/advice to help prevent damp/mould please?! I really can't stand the thought of spending another 6 months on "mould patrol"!! 😬

Do you have upvc windows? Have you thought if fitting trickle vents?

Keeping the windows open is your best bet, my bathroom gets mould overnight if I dare to keep the window shut for one windy night.

Thanks, that is good to hear, as my track record is poor! 😬

We do have UPVC windows, I will look into trickle vents, thank you.

We are end terrace as well, which I don't think helps, had some sort of sealant/coating put on the gable end wall so hoping that will also help!
