Using a sauna suit

I work out regularly partaking and training in kickboxing/mui Thai.
Im looking to loose an additional 2 stone and to assist with this I wanted to work out in a sauna suit 4 times a week, cardio exercises only, alongside my mui thai training.
Has anyone ever used this and does it work?

I used a sauna suit many years ago. Not sure it would withstand a cardio workout as they can rip.
sauna suits will only make you loose water anyway.

good luck with your weight loss journey.

Thank you I’m trying really hard to loose the last bit of weight, I was weighing nearly 15 stone after the birth of my third child and I’m now 12 stone. I’ll give this a go

Caution. A colleague of mine wore one years ago and collapses and had to be taken to hospital and rehydrated. She was quite unwell for 24 hours and said she felt like she was going to die!

I remember sauna suits being a thing in the 80s for a few years until it was proved they don't improve fat burning at all and any weight you lose is just water loss from sweating. Seems everyone has forgotten this and they are making a comeback. Kickboxing etc may be building more muscle than you used to have; if so your clothes size/measurements will be a better indicator of fat loss than the scales.

The lady I knew had embarked on a diet and fitness plan and had worked really hard with changing her eating habits and doing lots of exercise.

She only had a little bit more to go, a small amount of fat around her stomach and she gave the sauna suit a go.

She sweated so much she collapsed and was rushed to hospital.

Please do be very careful.

Absolutely don't do this, it's dangerous for starters and only works v temporarily. It can be useful for boxers etc trying to cut for weigh in but jockeys aren't allowed to use them now because of the long term damage for short term gain. You'll lose the weight if you sort out your nutrition, the end

PlipPlopChoo · 20/10/2023 23:12

Working out in a sauna suit is only going to make you sweat. This is not helping you lose fat. In fact it is probably counter productive as you will not be able to train as hard because your body is overheating.

The only additional weight you will lose is water weight, and that will go right back on after you eat and drink.

Please do not waste your time.

@GreyTS i have a very healthy nutritional lifestyle , I’m just struggling with this weight due to the fact I’ve had 3 children, my youngest two were back to back pregnancies.

You know it's a stupid idea borne if desperation. Any weight you lose will be water. If you re hoping to raise your metabolism i'm sure their are saver ways.

Objectrelations · 21/10/2023 09:40

That should read safer - or saner !!!

MiddleagedBeachbum · 21/10/2023 09:44

I’d try cold water dipping - I’ve never known anything to shred me like that does! It’s remarkable, it’s like you feel your ski and fat tightening up afterwards.

askingneverhurt · 21/10/2023 16:21

No need to be so rude.

19847499fddqqedxx · 21/10/2023 16:28

@MiddleagedBeachbum how many times a week do you do this? And for how long?
Any tips of advice on it?
Im happy to look at alternatives to a sauna suit, I just need to do that something extra to loose this remaining weight.

OP I’m guessing a sauna suit is much hotter than a bikram yoga class?

that sounds hot enough to me!

19847499fddqqedxx · 21/10/2023 16:38

I had to Google that type of yoga it looks tough!

I didn't mean to be rude.

It sounds like you are doing amazingly already.

I just felt sad - it sounds like such an unkind way to treat yourself when you are already losing weight, exercising and you have three children!!

Friend of mine goes four times a week. She reckons her health has never been better and she’s lost weight but also feels her appetite is naturally controlled by it.

sadly I can’t imagine getting near that standard but also a humid room is not for me. I don’t use steam rooms etc. the idea of exercising in one is hell to me, otherwise I’d love the idea anyway!

All you're doing is loosing sweat and water, you're not losing fat.
