The drying hack - sheet over airer - anyone tried it

Did anyone try the drying hack of placing a sheet over an airer to dry clothes quicker. I googled it and an article online says to have the airer near a radiator that is turned on and then put a sheet over the airer.

I don't have an airer located beside a radiator. It will be hard to get the airer sitting close to a radiator due to the location and traffic flow around the home.

I don't have a heater to use under such a set up and I suspect maybe that might be dangerous.

I do have a dehumifier. It's not a big dehumidifier. I am wondering I was to set up the clothes rail and use a sheet over the rail and place a dehumidifier in under the airer and sheet, would drying time be reduced still by doing it that way?

It works well on a heated drier, have you considered on of those? Dries a lot quicker and less damp in your house.

Yes, I always do it with my heated airer and it makes a massive difference. I have a dehumidifier which I leave close to the airer too which makes a difference to the amount of condensation produced when the washing is drying but not sure how much difference it makes to drying time

It makes sense for a heated drier , where the heat source is within the area covered by the sheet, but I don’t get why it would work where the heat source is external such as a radiator.
I have a dehumidifier and I am pretty sure the instructions say it should not be covered.
if you can , close the door when the dehumidifier is on so that it’s working area is kept to a minimum.

I do it but as part of a system. I put a sheet over the airer, run an oil radiator under the sheet for 10 mins to warm the air in the sheet ‘tent’ then remove the heater and tuck the dehumidifier into the tent and let it run. This dries clothes much quicker but I only do this when I am around to keep an eye on it. I would leave it running without oversight just in case.

I don't think the 'sheet' method works unless it's a heated airer? I have a Lakeland one and I think it's great.

I find that an old duvet cover works better than a sheet.

I have a dehumidifier in a room with the radiator on and I keep the door closed. I've noticed that when I put a sheet over the airer (not heated) it does seem to work - maybe the warmth circulates inside?

No idea, but it works for me.

I don't put the dehumidifier under the sheet though, it's tempting now I think of it, but I'm too forgetful for that to be safe.
