Buying a house that was built approximately 1914. Level 3 survey found elevated moisture levels in 2 rooms and states "it would be prudent to instruct a specialist damp and timber surveyor to undertake a thorough inspection of the floor timbers to confirm condition and advise on any remedial works"
Can anyone advise whether this is really required? Having already spent £600 on the survey if it's not I'd rather avoid the cost but then if it'll prevent potential costly repairs later...

It depends what you are looking for, but many companies will provide a basic level of information/quote without cost to you as they hope you'll ask them to do the work. Just make sure you get the right type of company, as many are cowboys who will just offer to inject a damp proof course regardless of theissue

I would always buy the most comprehensive survey as it will give you the true picture of what you are buying and is an excellent bargaining chip for getting a reduction

@Doggymummar I've already had the highest level of survey but now they have put this about getting another survey from a specialist damp and timber surveyor

The survey is to tell you what's wrong with the property, it's then up to you to act on it or not. They have found damp, up to you if you want to know more before proceeding.
