How would you spend a solo day/afternoon in London?

Need some ideas, keep having the odd solo day/afternoon/evening to spend and want to find other things to do that don't involve shopping and getting more tat I don't need 😅

Quite like the coffee and book idea that I've never done.. but any recommendations food exploring or otherwise, basically just need inspo!

(Just to clarify I sometimes go for work and only really work 9-1 but get later trains back as it's miles cheaper, and I enjoy it, hence lots of afternoons there)

If you do Leadenhall market you can walk up to the Guidhall Art gallery, which is also free. There's a Roman Amphitheatre in the basement.
From there you can walk to Paternoster Square which has cafes and an interesting sculpture.

I love the Guildhall gallery, and it is always quiet.

Also from there you can go to the One New Change shopping centre opposite St Paul's. The glass lift takes you to the roof terrace with a great close-up view of St Paul's.

This one hasn't been mentioned yet (apologies if you mentioned it and I skimmed over it). The artists Gilbert and George have opened their own gallery of their work, the Gilbert and George Centre, Heneage Street E1 (Spitalfields). It doesn't have a cafe because they want to encourage you to go to one of the many local independents.

Oh yes, Gilbert and George Centre is lovely - and free.

Thanks so much everyone - so many things to add to my list now.

Some things I have done before and forgotten about or not done for a while (great shout on the Lebanese food at Edgware as I try to eat a different cuisine every time and remember it being good)

I've not seen a matinee before but this could be a great idea as it gets festive and colder. And I love walking around in general so really interested in finding some new walks.

Hope this helps others with some inspo for any upcoming days out ☺️

@ErinAndTonic for Lebanese food you need Edgware Road (which is actually miles away from Edgware itself!).

If you do Monument don’t miss a visit to St Dunstans In The East. It is a magical little space, in the ruins of a Wren church. Atmospheric, glorious foliage, you feel as if you have stepped into a magical world. Great place to sit with a takeaway coffee if the weather allows.

St Dunstans was where my first LondonWalk took me. Fabulous find

There is a fascinating little museum near the Barbican which covers the history of the order of St John. These were the monks that provided a hospital in Jerusalem, 1000 years ago that eventually became the St John’s Ambulance

The Museum of the Order of St John - Museum of the Order of St John

A hidden jewel which tells the unique story of an ancient religious military Order. Their gatehouse and secret gardens are available for event hire.
