Hi

I have recently got married in Italy and have a multilingual wedding certificate (English is one of the languages) .
I have come back to Engkand and applied for a new passport to be told I have to have my certificate legally translated !!
How do.i do this ??
Has anyone else had this problem??

The are translators who will provide you with a legally acceptable translation. (Forgot what the technical word is) I don't know how much they cost because I had mine done over a decade ago in a different EU country.

Just looked it up- it's called a certified translation.

I'm a translator (French and Italian into English)...although some countries have 'certified translators', the UK doesn't. A qualified translator should be able to provide a translation with a covering letter detailing their qualifications (CIOL or ITI membership are the common ones), which should be enough, but I would try and get confirmation from the Passport Office that this will be sufficient. Once they've stopped to think about it they might realise that your multilingual version is OK, it really should be!
I would guess that a professional translator would charge £30/40. If you prepared a Word document containing all the relevant English text, a translator might reduce their usual minimum fee. Feel free to PM me if you want to know more.
