If your phone takes good print-worthy photos . . . .

. . . . What make and model is your phone?
I’m so fed up of grainy blocky looking photos that look rubbish printed. I want to take clear sharp photos but I'm starting to think maybe that’s not possible using a camera on a phone.
Thanks in advance!

I can take 200mp pictures on my Samsung s23 ultra.

The pictures are phenomenal. They take up a bit of space on my phone but I print them often and then delete the digital copy.

I've got a Samsung 23. Photos are great my last few Samsung Galaxies have all had really good photo quality

mynameiscalypso · 19/10/2023 17:29

I have an iPhone 12. I generally use portrait mode and don't really bother printing pictures that I've taken at night/dark lighting.

The phone isn't the problem.
And pixels aren't the solution.

If the results are blocky and grainy it's most likely that you're:

  • using it when there's not enough light; and/or
  • cropping/zooming it too much.

Another Samsung user here, S20. Great quality.

I have the same phone as you. I think this is the problem I am having - photos I take indoors and in grey weather conditions are really awful.
@Redglitter @hotcandle Does the Samsung phone you have take good photos in darker lighting conditions? This is what I need.

iPhone 12 - takes great photos but I know how to take a good photo with an SLR so that probably helps too 😄

MrsRetriever · 19/10/2023 17:35

iPhone 13 Pro. Make sure you’re using the right settings but with most phones released in the past 5 years (or longer) photos taken in daylight or bright indoor light should print fine.

Another Samsung 23 user here reporting for duty!

What is the solution to low light conditions? I sometimes put the flash on in low light but that seems to darken and slightly grey the image. Is there a better solution that the flash?

Any tips you can share for using it in low light conditions to take a good photo?

A phone camera is basically never going to be as good as an SLR, there is just not enough physical space there for the lens.

The latest models of iPhones are pretty good but it depends how high your standards are.

Google Pixel 7 Pro

There is, but you're not going to get the results just by changing settings. It's about working within the camera's limitations and choosing when/where to take the shot with the right settings. The biggest problem is that a phone camera has a tiny lens, and a tiny sensor with far too many pixels on it.
