Feeling peculiar all week with weird mix of symptoms - what is wrong with me?!

Since Monday I’ve had a collection of symptoms which seem to come and go, sometimes all there at once but always at least one.

Headache, nausea, upper abdominal pain, having my bowels open more often (but not diarrhoea), feeling tired, brain fog. I felt particular nauseous on Monday after sorting out some books in my son’s room, which I had been concentrating on, so I wondered if it was something to do with my eyes?! But that doesn’t seem to explain the other symptoms does it?

The nausea is worse when I am driving, and I’ve just got a new car so don’t know if it is related to that?! I don’t feel hungry, as I have emetophobia so feeling nauseous is really triggering for me and makes me not want to eat in case I am sick, but eating does help with the nausea for a short time.

I wake up feeling ok, then the abdo pain usually starts before I get out of bed. The nausea starts mid morning.

Def not pregnant - just finished my period and no sex for about 2 months.

I’m 44 so possibly perimenopausal but no idea if that can cause this weird collection of symptoms.

Done several covid tests which are negative.

Booked in for an eye test tomorrow in case it is related to that.

Any other ideas?!

Could just be a mild bug that's going round.

But yes, perimeno can cause all sorts of weird symptoms well before periods start changing from what is normal for you.

MabelQ · 19/10/2023 17:51

I agree with the above about a mild bug, but some of these symptoms sound like migraine symptoms! I would try to relax and keep a log of what’s going on (symptoms, foods, activities) and if you continue to see these recurring I’d see if you can get in with your GP. Migraines can take a huge range of forms and can even be “silent”. Hope you feel better asap!

Can migraines start so late in life? Both my mum and sister suffer terribly with migraines so wouldn’t be a total surprise other than the fact I’ve never had one before.

I’ve always learned that the one rule for migraines is “anything goes”, I’m afraid. Mine are extremely hormonal, and I believe my Mom’s started post-menopause… I do believe they’re known to pop up in the peri-menopausal season of life.

MissIndecisive2023 · 19/10/2023 18:06

Hmmm I never would have thought of migraines so thanks for mentioning it. My sister's are hormonal too. My period started on Saturday and the headache I think on Sunday/Monday. Bummer about starting around perimenopause. I could really do without feeling like this on a regular basis!

I also thought migraine. Mine leave me feeling sort of car sick nausea and I get the brain fog.

MissIndecisive2023 · 19/10/2023 18:28

Would a migraine last this long?

Unsuremuriel · 19/10/2023 18:29

Mine can last on and off all week and I can get several auras in a row. Mine are also 100% hormonal

MissIndecisive2023 · 19/10/2023 18:32

What’s an aura like?

sorry for all the questions!

MeltedBrain · 19/10/2023 18:35

If it is migraine, don't panic that it'll be happening regularly. I went through a phase of them a few years ago, had maybe 5 or 6 over a few months, and haven't had one since.

For me, the aura is a change to my vision, like a shimmery patch, that lasts for about 15 minutes.

MissIndecisive2023 · 19/10/2023 18:50

You don’t always get an aura with migraine, right? I haven’t had anything like a change to my vision or lights or patches or anything.

Migraine was my first thought also - I suffer too, and have had a few recently after none for quite some time.
I may also be peri as they seem to come when I’m due my period.

The doctor can prescribe pain killers to take when they first start and also preventative medicine too, so if you do find it becomes an issue see the GP

OhDoSitDownAndShutUp · 19/10/2023 20:39

Some kind of virus (there are things going around)

MissIndecisive2023 · 19/10/2023 21:31

Is a migraine headache worse than a normal headache? This one isn’t the worst headache I’ve ever had so wondering if that means it’s less likely to be a migraine?

OP posts:
MissIndecisive2023 · 19/10/2023 21:31

Agree it could well be a virus. We’ve had some people off work recently but I don’t know for exactly what reason

Ugh still feeling crappy today.

Hi
On Friday last week I woke up with a sore throat, thought nothing of it
Sunday I woke up, feeling very nauseous, frequent bowel movements, aching, upper stomach pain (it felt it was cramping) headache, and very tired I slept all day
There's been something going around and I'm still feeling a bit bleugh now! So it might be this bug going around.
Hope you feel better.

MissIndecisive2023 · 20/10/2023 10:13

@Darby3785 did you test for covid? Hope you feel better soon too.

I’ve had a faint positive on my covid test today. I know people are taking a while to show as positive in testing at the moment but a week seems a bit excessive?!

Ive had exactly the same symptoms for about two weeks now. I’m in my 60’s so don’t think it’s hormonal.
I’ve tested a few times for Covid but all negative so I’m assuming a bug.
Only positive is with eating so little my stomach is the flattest it’s been for years.

Ha yes the weight loss is the only good thing about this! I cope very badly with nausea so it's been a miserable week otherwise! Hope you are better soon.

I'm probably going to jinx it now but tonight is the first time in over a week where I haven't felt nauseous.
