I've been prescribed sertraline anti depressants for my PPD. I've always had anxiety and depression but it's alot worst at the moment and I'm really struggling and getting worse mentally 😔 I had a traumatic pregnancy where I was cheated on and left which made me 10 times worse aswell as now doing this all on my own with minimal support from my sons father

I'm really worried about starting to take these tablets as heard it csn make you unwell for weeks and i have a 10 week old baby to take care of on my own.

Has anyone took these tablets before and what's your experiences with them?
Thanks

I would take them. You can always stop. I was on them for a year or so, and while I'm not on them now, because I feel hugely better, they were really beneficial at the time and I have no regrets about going that route.

The only side effects I really was severe tiredness for the first 3 days or so. You may not experience this, but I would have found it difficult to look after a young baby. That said, at 10 weeks, you may be in the clear with slightly better sleep than a very new baby, which means you just have to sleep literally every moment when baby sleeps. Or draft in someone to come round and help a bit the first few days. That said, you may not experience that at all. But I had no other symptoms after those initial couple days. Other than feeling much better - I was feeling better within about 4-5 days, not 100%, but significantly better.

It sounds like you've been through a really tough time @LD233

Sertraline worked wonders for me. The meds took a couple of weeks to start working but my goodness, they were brilliant.

I did have a lot of support from my Mum though so if you can lean on friends and family for the next few weeks, please do it. Some much needed support for you along with the medication will see you heading on a much easier path moving forward.

Sertraline has been good for me. Yes i felt off for the first few days of taking them but then back to normal

My husband takes sertraline and he finds it doesn't make him feel ill if he takes it before bed. I had the same thing with fluoxetine when I was on that.

I'd say try it, and try to figure out a time to take it that minimises side effects. You can always stop taking it (discuss with a doctor first!) if it isn't right for you. It can take trying a few different types to find the right one.

Yes I started on them at about 3 weeks post partum with my 3rd baby after a very difficult pregnancy. Stayed on them for 2 years and they changed my life. I cannot recommend them highly enough. I wish I'd had them years and years ago.
