Party for 10 year old

I'm throwing a disco party for my 10 year old. My SIL thinks that musical statues will be too babyish, I don't think so?

Does everyone agree that they are too babyish for 10 year olds? Has anyone got any ideas of what games they can play - we will have a DJ.

Lastly, does anyone have any tips for throwing a party with a dj?

From when I had parties with a dj and disco lights as a 10 year old.

Musical statues are babyish then. We just danced and had dance move competitions.

Tips for parties with a dj at that age range. Make sure there’s plenty of room to dance (no or minimal furniture) and that DJ knows what to play (but can be guided by the host). We had glitter balls and disco flashing lights but you could add neon signs.

Make sure there’s enough drinks as dancing can be thirsty but equally don’t let it spill on floor if a slippy surface.

I agree it would be babyish at that age.

Neon glow in the dark face paints
Glow sticks
Disco lights
Disco sticks

It's worth checking if flashing lights are a problem for any of the invitees - I have a dd with photosensitive seizures, at 10 not all parents will think of flashing lights

Mmm my feeling is that really they like musical statues but they all think people would think they're not cool if they admit it

We do Monster Musical Statues at our school Halloween party - preschool all the way up to Yr6 & everyone loves it.
Other options could be old school stuff like the conga, oops upside your head, Macarena, etc
Or other party games like over under etc.

You can always ask them if they want to do it. At 10, they can tell you what they enjoy. More than likely, they'll come up with their own things to do and you won't really need to play any games. They might find it funny and enjoyable in an ironic sort of way - the same way that a game of pass the parcel could be done a bit tongue in cheek but be funny still at 10. I have a 10 year old and I don't find I need to come up with things for her to do with her friends though so you won't 'need' to do anything really.

I've got loads of glow sticks, glow stick glasses. We are having a Photo Booth with props.

I'm making a back drop/balloon arch with a neon sign.

Anyone know what kind of food to do for the children. I'm also going to be making cocktails - basically a mini rave haha

I'm worried they will be bored lol

Most of the 10 year olds I know would be asking the face painter for a full face make-up job 😂 (I have a dd who has just turned 11). Glitter tattoos may be a good idea.
Food wise, if you’re catering yourself, keep it simple with pizzas, potato wedges/chips and chicken nuggets with some veggie/crudités dippers. Ask about dietary restrictions and requirements for all of the guests too so you can cover those bases.
Bowls of crisps and popcorn for snacks.

@MummyJ12 Thank you for your reply. My DD is the same - she lovessss make up!

I'm acting like I've never done this before haha - btw glitter tattoos are a great idea!

I did my DDs birthday a few weeks ago (she was turning 9) - the thing that got eaten first was watermelon!
It doesn't all have to be beige.
