Tube with 2 year old, pram and suitcase. Doable?

I’m taking a solo trip to London with my 2 year old. I will have the pram with me and either a bag or a small suitcase on wheels.

We will arrive into Euston and then will need to get the Tube to Ealing Broadway, changing at Tottenham court Road.

Slightly concerned I dont have 3 hands. I know there are escalators etc to navigate

Was thinking dd could be in pram and I can wheel suitcase. Or dd could walk and I could take a bag instead and put that on the pram.

Is this doable? Any tips? Anything I’ve not thought of?

I use the tube a lot as we live in London and always take public transport to airports etc. We use a large rucksack as a wheeled case ain't practical with a buggy. You could use a large cross body bag instead.

@YourNameGoesHere she’s 2.5 and hardly in her pram much anymore. Just taking as a precaution this time. So wont have this problem much longer.

Days out etc we’re usually in the car

Just realised I checked the road not the station and it looks like it's 20 minutes walk to the station itself.

Kings X is less than 10 minutes walk though, but you'd have to change trains so depends what is more annoying.

@Papillon23 that’s really kind of you to check thank you. I’m just going to have a look now but sounds good

Big rucksack. Even when I don't have dc with me and am navigating London, I find it much easier than a rolling suitcase.

mindutopia · 18/10/2023 14:24

Do not, however, underestimate how much you will use the pram with a 2.5 year old in London, especially in winter, even if she doesn't use it much at home. Driving to somewhere and walking around is much different than being in a city where you are walking all day. We went abroad to a similar sized city with good public transport with our eldest when she was 4 and dh ended up carrying her around on his shoulders for parts of the day. She was exhausted with all the walking and just the general busy-ness.

If it’s only a small suitcase why don’t you have a large bag instead that you could put in the basket or hang on the pram

Can you borrow a rucksack from a friend?
How much stuff do you need to take, is it overnight things for you and toddler?

If you can't borrow a big enough bag, I think it's worth buying one - Decathlon is good value, they have a 30L hiking rucksack for £16.99, or a 33L backpack for £19.99.

I've done St Pancras, suitcase and buggy
It's hard but doable. It's better now there are lifts pretty much everywhere.

NameChange30 · 18/10/2023 14:33

From Euston, you could get the bus to Tottenham Court Road and then the Elizabeth line to Ealing Broadway. It's a short bus journey and toddlers love getting the bus! And the Elizabeth line will be accessible.

SoRainbowRhythms · 18/10/2023 14:35

Walk to Kings X. Circle or H&S to Farringdon. Elizabeth line to Ealing Broadway. All step free.

Citymapper has a step free option.

Rosecoffeecup · 18/10/2023 14:35

I might be silly but I think it would be ok with a wheelie suitcase? I generally only use one hand to push a pram, can you just do this?

Euston is a massive ball ache for accessibility, but someone will help you down the stairs if you need it. Changing at TCR will be OK I think, I'm sure there's lifts between the northern and Elizabeth lines.

AutumIsOrange · 18/10/2023 14:36

Tried to see if anyone else had posted this but couldn’t see it so…

Out of Euston Station and bear right - follow the (very clear and obvious) footpath round the taxis (many people will be doing this).

At end of cab rank, look left and cross at the very obvious traffic lights.

Look left, see bus stop not 10 paces away. Get Number 73 bus to Tottenham Ct Rd (bus will announce stop).

Enter main entrance on Oxford St corner. Take lift to ticket hall, then lift (on right of ticket hall) to Central Line or whichever line you need from there.

Take a rucksack!

frenchfries111 · 18/10/2023 14:39

Backpack all the way. I travel with teenage dd quite often and we take one each. Suitcases as no good when you are waiting for a hotel room etc.

have you got a changing bag that fits over pram handles?

Bananasinpyjamas1988 · 18/10/2023 14:42

euston doesn’t have lifts. It’s a difficult journey even without the suitcase. Have you done the step free option on travel planner?

Dora26 · 18/10/2023 14:44

Do yourself a massive favour and avoid rush hour!

What a helpful post! It would be quite a step from Euston to TCR on foot with luggage and pushchair. Once on the Elizabeth Line all should be well, though. Good luck!

amidsummernightsdream · 18/10/2023 14:48

Thanks everyone. I am taking a backpack now (after advice on the case) but it will just be the small one I already have. Will need to take an additional bag too which I can put under the basket.

I just wont be buying a bigger rucksack, as (and you’ll have to trust me on this) I wont make use of it.

And thanks for those that have given info on the buses. Definitely dont fancy that at all though, seems like even more of a faff and I would prefer to walk. I do appreciate the advice though

Avoid rush hour. You could also get a bus from m Ruston to Paddington then the Elizabeth line to ealing Broadway
