Best/cheapest way to heat one area of the house

This is probably an "it depends" question but interested in different opinions.

Last winter DH and DS worked at home most of the time, and DD and I worked at home some of the time. We had the heating on the timer in the morning and evening and it got put on manually during the day when it got chilly.

This year, DS still works at home most of the time, but the rest of us mostly don't. I'm therefore thinking that heating the whole house for just him is probably not the most efficient way to keep him warm and we might be better off getting a heater or something for his work space.

Any thoughts? What do others do? (I should point out that DS already dresses warmly with thick socks and has a blanket over him, so not a question of him doing these instead).

I think a lot of it depends on your home. I know Martin Lewis says heat the person not the space but I live in a Victorian property and if I don't have the heating on it gets damp.

Do you have thermostatic radiator valves on your radiators? You can adjust them to turn down the temperature in some rooms and just keep specific rooms warm.

Or if you want to avoid having the boiler on all day to heat just one room, maybe an oil-filled heater in the room he's working in?

An oil filled electric radiator might be good. We gave a small one we no longer needed to a friend in a cold attic studio flat - he said it worked very well for the area where he usually sat.

I agree with the oil filled radiator. Alternatively you could consider an electric blanket /fleece instead of a normal blanket

Plug in electric heater. Argos.
