If you are fully WFH (or almost) and earn around £50k, what do you do?

My job feels like a set of golden handcuffs at the moment - decent-ish salary, lots of WFH, decent-ish pension, plenty of annual leave, nice people - but I am bored to tears and fed up. I've been working in the same area for over 15 years and really, really need a change. However at the same time I feel a bit paralysed because of the above benefits. I know, for example, that I absolutely want to maintain WFH and I need to maintain a similar salary, at least for the next few years.

I have job-searched but I don't really know what I'm looking for, sector-wise. I tend to stick to what I know but obviously that just brings up the same kind of thing I'm doing now, which I want to get away from!

So I'm looking for random inspiration. If you've got a fully or mainly WFH job and earn around £50k, what do you do? What's out there?

Work in Bids for a large bank

I'm a pretty much 100% wfh and around the same money as you

WonderingAboutBabies · 18/10/2023 13:14

I work for the NHS in Analytics. Band 8a plus London weighting so about £58k. Fully remote.

Work2live · 18/10/2023 13:16

I work in marketing (with a particular specialism) for a global tech company. No requirement to be in the office regularly as the entire company is remote/in different time zones.

Started out on £40k in my first role in this sector. Following a promotion and a job move I’ve gone up to £70k in the space of two years.

I wouldn’t say I love it, but the money and flexibility are great, my job is often quite interesting, and I don’t generally dread Mondays.

Motherdaughtercircle · 18/10/2023 13:19

Civil servant - mostly working at home as the rest of my team are based in a different office. About £55k. I lead on a specific policy area...never dull, always something different to do or think about, and frequent(ish) overseas travel required.

Qualified accountants earn that, but you can't walk in at that level.

There will be few £50k pa roles where you can walk into without relevant experience or significant transferable skills tbf.

I earn £52k in a specialist consultancy role with v good AL, pension etc and average 60% at home but it would take a minimum of 5 years to get there.

TuckingFypos · 18/10/2023 13:23

I'm a freelance web deveoper, WFH except on the days clients like me in the office (which isn't often). £45-50k. Wouldn't change it for the world.

Woahtherehoney · 18/10/2023 13:25

I work for a large organisation in marketing - I go into the office 1 day a week.

Liguinelover · 18/10/2023 13:25

Project manager in engineering.

You can have my job! I hate it

Crispautumn · 18/10/2023 13:26

Civil service! As a PP has mentioned, I am a well paid admin some days.

Letsnotargue · 18/10/2023 13:27

I’m an Environment and Sustainability Manager. £50k, have to do the occasional site visit but at home 90% of the time.

Helpel · 18/10/2023 13:41

60K for a 4 day week - HR Systems. Work from home all the time except approx once a month i travel to our head office to meet with team members/socials. Great flexibility and pay, a bit boring.
I think you might be looking for the impossible - Personally I think some of the most interesting/varied/exciting jobs are the lowest paid and require being out of the house (vocations?)! High paying work from home jobs are normally made up of boring corporate functional roles.

Mommagoose · 18/10/2023 13:50

Product manager finance 57k 2 days a month in the office. Office however is a sizeable commute.

Bellyrumble · 18/10/2023 13:55

I’m a lawyer, from home 3 to 4 days a week and just under 50k. Some days are more interesting than others but for the amount of time I spent training I don’t think I’m paid enough. I am looking for something else but also don’t want to go back to a 5 day office job.

may look at some of these ops jobs that have been mentioned or civil service…

PinkyDinkyDoodle · 18/10/2023 14:05

Engineer. I love my job.

Consideringachange2023 · 18/10/2023 14:09

Digital projects role. Circa 55k. Would be more in private sector. Fully remote by choice

DeliahSmilah · 18/10/2023 14:10

S/E sell stuff earn around 1-2k per week after tax work around 12-24hrs probably would earn more with more hours but this suits atm

Pwincessb · 18/10/2023 14:14

Product marketing for me.

vernatheraven · 18/10/2023 14:15

Business development.

90% working from home.

Boring as actual fuck

WeightoftheWorld · 18/10/2023 14:16

Everyone working in ops, how did you get into that? I think I'd like to go into something like that especially public sector and/or health or pharma related but I don't know where/how to start?

ClaribelLowLieth · 18/10/2023 14:16

60K, editor, WFH, also bored.

NunsKnickers · 18/10/2023 14:16

Data scientist for government.

pontipinemum · 18/10/2023 14:19

@Tempnamechng I'd love to know what that is? I live on a farm and we are always looking for something to diversify into. A woman local enough to us started a coy putting logo's etc onto clothing, mainly marketed towards the farming sector and seems to be doing great. We're cattle farms.

OP, I WFH part time and earn €32k I'm an accountant. Pension, very flexible

ethelredonagoodday · 18/10/2023 14:19

Yep feel similar to you OP
Public sector in technical professional specialism...

mindutopia · 18/10/2023 14:20

I'm an academic, but not really the sort of role you can just pop into without a thousand years of higher education unfortunately.
