Do you have any plants in your bedroom? Which one do you recommend me? Easy to care for. Thank you.

Spider plant , peace lily .pretty easy

funbags3 · 17/10/2023 14:09

If you want a plant that requires very little care, go for a Sansevieria.

Yes, you'd have to try really had to kill one of these!

Also spider plants, prayer plant or lithops are pretty easy.

I agree. Fine in sun or shade and I only water mine once a month. They're definitely my easiest plants along with ZZ plants. If you want something trailing then Devil's Ivy is really low maintenance too.

teraculum29 · 17/10/2023 14:46

indoor fern are good too for bedrooms

CherryMyBrandy · 17/10/2023 14:48

Aloe Vera are also very difficult to kill and need little maintenance.

I also have a Christmas cactus that is easy and seems to be happy and flowers every year!

IDriveMySupernova · 17/10/2023 15:00

Monstera are very easy, they grow like weeds. You can cut the stems and propagate them easily too.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/10/2023 15:22

Orchids will do well on some window ledges and thrive on benign neglect.

ForthegracegoI · 17/10/2023 15:25

I’ve successfully killed every single one of the species mentioned so far in this thread - some several times over. So some tips on keeping them alive would be great !

Aloe vera like sunny warm spot. Doesnt like shade and too much watering.

Inch plant, chinese money plant, snake plant, coffee plant, prayer plant. Don't put in direct sunlight. Water once a week (the snake plant once a month

IdaPolly · 17/10/2023 16:04

I've had an aspidistra since 2016. It's known as the cast iron plant as it can cope with neglect.

I’m really crap with plants but bought some from ikea a year ago and all still alive! Monstera, snake plant and a dragon tree(?!) Three live in my bedroom, and the only attention they receive is when I have left over water from nighttime 😂 I actually found the ikea web page on easy plants really useful for care!

I have what used to be known as a Wandering Jew, but which I suspect now may be known as something else, which I was given as a 10cm long cutting and which two years later trails for several metres in several directions. It’s indestructible. I’ve also had surprisingly good luck with flamingo plants and orchids.

CherryMyBrandy · 17/10/2023 20:26

@teraculum29 I am the worst with plants and manage to keep them alive! Yes they are desert plants do you are right they need light and not overwatering. But essentially as long as they have some light and you pretty much leave them alone they are ok. Only water when they are bone dry then soak and leave alone again.

Thry don’t need loads of sun. I have a big one in the middle of a bedroom that only gets a bit of morning sun and it’s fine.

You must have really put some effort in to kill them! 😂😂😂

When there are problematic common names, it's often a good idea to Google for the alternative, such as Tradescantia.

Mine has died a thousand deaths (due to the blasted cat, meaning I have to start again with a one inch scrap poked into a pot each time), but is currently about four foot long and spreading over the kitchen windowsill amongst the Spider Plant army I'm raising to stand (dangle) alongside the Sansevieria platoon (the buggers just keep birthing new pups everytime I have to repot before they fall over).

DP keep attempting to introduce ferns. Great idea in principle - not so much in practice, as when the stagshorn feigned death, he bought a new one, only for the original to stage a lazarene level recovery.

longtompot · 17/10/2023 21:34

We have peace lilies in our south facing bedroom window. They cope very well with the heat and let me know when they need a water by wilting their leaves. They come back very quickly

ErrolTheDragon · 17/10/2023 22:20

My peace lilies are all well away from windows, they've always started to look poorly if I put them in the sun. I wonder if there are different types or is it that they get acclimated to their conditions?

i had aloe vera in the kitchen by the window it didn't like it, now i have one in the bedroom on windowsil and its loving it.

the only plants that managed to survive in my darkish house, (north facing and big trees around) is ferns

longtompot · 18/10/2023 19:52

Mine do have paler leaves than the ones further away from the windows so maybe they are suffering a bit @ErrolTheDragon Maybe I'll look into some of the suggestions on this thread.
