Would you choose to have a smaller home so you could have more experiences or holidays?

Not at the moment no. We fill our house as it is and it's not that small. You're in a house a hell of a lot longer than you're on holiday for!

As so many others have said, it depends what you mean by smaller.

I'd prefer the dc all had their own bedroom
I'd prefer (when they were small) we had a decent garden
I needed two living rooms
I needed a kitchen big enough for a table we could all comfortably sit round.
I needed a space to wfh.

So, no, I wouldn't 'lose' any of those to have two holidays a year rather than one.
But then I wouldn't have stretched myself to get 'spare bedrooms' or a garden room or anything else 'extra' if it meant not having holidays and having to say 'no' when invited to special events.

But, OTOH now the dc are grown, I am actively looking for a smaller house, smaller garden, etc, which will free up money for a few 'big holidays' before we get too old to travel much, yes. But that is only one reason for wanting to move - I wouldn't go through all the hassle of moving "just" to free up money for luxuries.

Some seem to think of holidays as stays in sunny resorts. Whilst that’s lovely, for me it’s more than that. It’s traveling and discovering the world and new places amd cultures. To me, that’s worth more than a spare bedroom but to each their own. I reckon some people are less interested about the world and are happy to travel across the UK instead. That isn’t me.
On top of holidays I also value having spare cash for other experiences, days out, dining in nice places and, why not, the occasional shopping session. These are all things that make life more enjoyable to me. I think a lot depends also on where you are based. I live in London so I am happy to compromise on space as I have to much to experience at my doorstep. A huge house in the countryside would kill me.
