IV sedation at dentist

Hi
I have a bad dental phobia so am having IV sedation for an extraction and fillings. Has anyone had this before? Are you aware of what's going on and does it ease your worry?
I'm very nervous!

I had IV sedation for wisdom tooth removal. Yes, it helped. I was awake and aware of everything that was going on and I remembered it (some people say you don't remember, but I personally was aware and remembered the whole thing). What it did was almost disconnect the worrying part of the brain from what was going on. Like it was no big deal and I wasn't bothered by it. It did help a lot.

I’ve had it a couple of times for tooth extraction. You are aware, but you’re so out of it you won’t care. Sounds strange but it’s true! There’s no feeling tense or scared, you just lie back shut your eyes and let them get on with it. I remember feeling mildly irritated when they were taking a wisdom tooth out thinking why can’t they just let me sleep!

I've had IV sedation twice for dental work.

I can't begin to put in to words my level of phobia when it comes to the dentist and, in fact, more so needles. Unfortunately, a needle was necessary and with the help of Emla numbing cream and someone talking to me to distract me, I was able to have the IV sedation.

It is wonderful.

I was extremely worried that it wouldn't work, I'd know what was going on, I'd feel everything, I'd remember everything etc... That couldn't be further from the truth! I remember being completely with it (although absolutely hysterical while actually getting the IV placed) then... nothing! I feel like during the second time I vaguely recall stirring slightly but it's just a very very distant, foggy memory and there is no trauma or anything attached to it - they obviously just pushed a little more sedation and I slipped back under.

I genuinely remember nothing. I felt nothing. I vaguely remember leaving the dentist but, again, it's very hazy. I went home, slept for a few hours and was no worse for wear when I woke up.

I would highly recommend it and wouldn't hesitate to get it again.

Wishing you the best of luck and calm vibes.
